Mothership Connection
ParliamentIt is the embodiment of a party and a good time. I was very amused to learn that the motif of aliens coming to Earth to bring up the funk dates so far back. A lot of 'danceable' tracks.

Some songs are fun and nice with great technical skills, others where somewhat dull or made me feel they drag on for too long.
It's a fun album, but the title track outshines most of the rest of the album.
This album usually comes with the idea that those who don't like it, hate it and those who like it, love it. But for me it was a very lukewarm experience. It constantly swings between saccharine but catchy guilty pleasures and unbearable slop that could interpreted as a reflection of the stale state of pop music at the time (more than 10 years ago). If this album were released today, it would be forgettable. Taylor Swift has better records.

Beautiful record. The highlight for me is I Surrender, Dear; a sad and gorgeous masterpiece that serves as a calming point before the swinging closer.
I knew that at some point a RHCP album would appear on the list, but didn't expected to be this soon. I don't like RHCP. But regardless, I try to listen to this album with open ears. Maybe this would change my opinion. Maybe. It didn't. There were some moments where I was enjoying what I was hearing, but never a full song. Their style is overpowering and it seeps through every track. And I'm talking only about the music. Because at no point I enjoyed Kiedis' voice. Not when he does that shouting rap, not when he does the quiet singing, not when he goes from highs to lows, and certainly not when he does the ding ding dings and dangs rang dangs. The production was a mess, too muffled and weird. I thought there was an issue with my headphones, but no, it's supposed to sound like that. A complete mess and the confirmation that RHCP is just not for me.
Jangly, mysterious, cryptic, dance-able. The R.E.M debut shines with powerful and verbose lyrics that don't hide their influences. From American alternative bands to the post-punk British indie movement, this album is a beautiful statement of what indie/alternative music can achieve when the only motivation is creativity. A gem that I will cherish and definitively will be on my rotation for a while. The guitar intro of 9-9 is so avant-garde that feels like something released last year. What an album.
As someone who isn't very familiar with David Bowie's work (yet) this album was the perfect introduction. Very solid.
Even if it's not my favourite Smiths album, this is a masterpiece. It redefined alternative pop rock for decades and its influence remains until this day. Tragic, comedic and all around dramatic, this album encapsulates the teenage angst and the young adult feelings of being lost in the modern world. A classic that will prevail the pass of time.
