Buena Vista Social Club by Buena Vista Social Club
Jan 20 2025

Generally I am not a listener of Cuban music, I have very little knowledge about Cuban son. However, for a first step into these Central American rhythms, it was not bad at all. In fact, the jazz touches make it not at all distant to me and allow me to praise this album a little. I recognize that it is not the kind of album that I would listen to again or in a usual way since, as it happens to anyone, there are melodies or lyrics that call my attention or touch my soul without the need to think about it or analyze each song structurally. But, undoubtedly, there are high points that deserve to be named and have allowed me to see that fiery, or rather Caribbean, side of this Buena Vista Social Club presentation. Pros: Dos Gardenias, Pueblo Nuevo, El Cuarto de Tula, Candela and Amor de Loca Juventud

1984 by Van Halen
Jan 21 2025

It's a good album, I think it made me more interested in Van Halen's music. Certainly, I had become very comfortable in the repetition of their hits that are often repeated over and over again on the radio, but on this album I found other gems like I'll Wait and Top Jimmy. PS: I recommend listening to it while watching the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Girls beauties. Perfect

Come Away With Me by Norah Jones
Jan 23 2025

I must say that I like Norah Jones' voice, it has that soft feel to it that harmonizes well with her style of music. That said, this album didn't convince me, I mean it has some songs that I like but really listening to the almost 45 minutes that this album lasts I find it monotonous and predictable with the passing of each song. Definitely, if I were to put any of these songs on a random list it wouldn't be bad. But, staying listening to this album is like being with someone and having to constantly push them to wake up or at least change their behavior. I don't expect him to make a jazzy jump to an African dub either, but at least try to make a balance in the songs to generate a different movement that is not all ultra mega dependent to a certain harmony that eventually makes listening to the music become a tedium or give in to background music.

I'm afraid I'm not in my sad or melancholic mood and that's why it doesn't impact me, or I just didn't like it. I found the vocals bland, the instrumentation could have been better but all in all it wasn't too bad. “Basic Space” feels good, I have empathy for that song. Same as well for "Heart Skipped a Beat", in this one the voices are better matched than in the rest of the songs. PS: Within indie pop, I prefer Oh Wonder considering they are a duo as well and seriously, much better.

"If you don't love me now, you will never love me again" Yeah, just like that.
