Harvest by Neil Young
Jan 23 2025

Already loved this obviously. Great songs, simple but with clever little details (the opening chords on Old Man, the time signature stuff on Words), singing vulnerable and powerful, sparse arrangements often but also the fucking London Philharmonic. Noticed for the first time that the bass on the chorus of Out On The Weekend only plays one note. Genius

Appetite For Destruction by Guns N' Roses
Jan 24 2025

I’m not sure how I’m meant to feel when I’m listening to this. Like it’s sort of angry songs in a major key? There are exactly three catchy songs on here and we’ve all heard them a million times. The rest are pretty turgid. I don’t know how they’re summoning all this energy to pour into these boring songs. Neil Young was doing a lot with a little yesterday, and these guys are doing the opposite. Like, it’s not even especially imaginative? The musicianship is very good but the songs all sound the same and the chord changes and arrangements are all just the first thing you would think of. Pretty amazing for a first album but I would be fine never hearing this again.

Really good. Incredibly tight and catchy. Mentioned it to my mum and she got angry. I imagine if you were around at the time you would have got sick to death of hearing this. I don’t want to be a “I was born in le wrong generation xd” idiot but this is objectively great stuff

I don’t really like this but by god I respect it

Call of the Valley by Shivkumar Sharma
Feb 02 2025

I couldn’t find this album so I’m listening to something to do with a mountain, which is a bit like a valley. So far it is pleasant. I do not like the drum that goes bwoung, it makes me uneasy. VERDICT: by no means unpleasant. Feels absolutely emotionally empty to me as there are no changes in chord or dynamic.
