Sea Change
BeckI really dig this. It was a lot more melancholy and downtempo than I would have predicted, but each track offers depth and something to like.
This isnβt my favorite type of music in the world, but thereβs a lot to like about Bad. Great energy, great beats, great bass lines, and lots of attitude. Itβs not one Iβd put on regularly, but if someone else played it, Iβd listen happily.

I was surprised by how political, and in a very contemporarily appropriate way, some of these songs were. I was already familiar with the radio singles and expected to give this record 3 or 4 stars. Hearing it in its entirety was a pleasant surprise- it was all better than I expected.
Despite having owned this on CD when it released in 2003, I never listened to the whole double album in its entirety. Iβll say right off the bat that albums like this make me wish I had more time to listen. This one is large enough and interesting enough that it could definitely benefit from multiple listens. Thereβs a lot to digest here. There are quite a few musically and lyrically interesting ideas to parse, and Iβd love to spend some more time with it. This is definitely outside the realm of my usual favorites, but there was a lot that I enjoyed. Very progressive and jazzy, blending elements of numerous genres in a unique and groundbreaking way.
