So that's where that 'shame shame shame' joke from American Dad came from People Get Ready goes crazy. Something about this era of music makes short songs feel longer. I assume it's because there's much more going on dynamically than modern pop
The length of the album is absurd but damn when the choir comes in on Get Ready For Love you start to think 'thank god this is longer than 2 minutes' Cannibal's Hymn is proof to give music a chance, because that's twice now I've thought of turning this album off only to end up thinking 'damn this is pretty good' Overall, this album is not for the faint of heart. Not that it's hard to listen to, it's long. Roughly double the length of an album that would have come out in the last decade. edit: Just wrote that this is a literal double album in the most verbose way I could. I'm leaving it. Production wise, it's a great album with incredible and dynamic instrumentals that had me tapping my foot with most of the music. Lyrically I find this album lacking. Not in theme or content, but the vocalist's delivery of them tends to get repetitive over the course of the album's runtime. Despite this minor complaint, I'd listen to this album again.
Having been familiar with hit singles like Ms. Jackson but never hearing the full album, I was surprised at how varied and experimental this record could get. At times, the age of the album shows through the ABAB style rhyme patterns or out of time flows that some features have, but still are enjoyable lyrically. I give it 4 out of 5 stars because there were songs that I would probably skip if I weren't giving the album a concentrated listen, but I still see the appeal of them. Stankonia is an album that has definitely earned it's critical acclaim and I encourage anyone and everyone listen to it.
This album felt like it spanned multiple genres, but unfortunately for the album I don't listen to many of them often. There are some truly great songs on the record, but there are more that I had to make a concentrated effort not to skip and would never listen to again.
Overall chill psychedelic rock album. It has its catchy moments but very little of it was able to hold my attention. If youre doing anything else it is very easy to not notice a different song has started
