1001 Albums Summary

In this era, with a name like 'The ____s' and covers of R&B/rock classics, no one could stop you. This got play with my family when I was a kid and I think I listened to it front to back in HS! Love an album with no songs over 3min. This version of 'Have Love Will Travel' is a banger and the real standout to me. I'm sure this killed live. The SAX. The sax.

I don't know what I was expecting when I pressed play but it wasn't this! The recording sounds great. I can't think of a time I'd reach for this when I have the output of Jason Molina available, but it's nice.

It is 2002. You are at the outdoor pool attached to the fancy gym your parents have a membership at. 'Believe' by Cher plays over a tinny PA system. In a few weeks you will be moving away from everything you have known since achieving sentience to start the first grade in a new city. The sun glaring off the cement is blindingly bright, ahead of you a set of diving boards stand tall as towers. You climb the ladder to the high dive, you swear it must be Olympic-regulation height. Many times times you've climbed up to this board, a line of eager children behind you, and many times you've made the shameful journey back down the ladder, too paralyzed by fear to make that high, high dive. The song on the radio changes to 'Clocks' by Coldplay. You somehow disconnect your rational mind from your body and walk forward, off the plank. You hit the water with a smack, and the entire front of your body stings like hell. You did it, though.

Uhhhhh I know the first three songs on this? They've gotten a lot of play. In the context of yesterday's Coldplay album-- I find U2 a lot less grating, but ultimately boring. I have never listened to U2 on purpose. I probably should've been less mean to Coldplay with the stars, but now that I've set my scale as 'mean' how can I go back?

As a kid, my faves were 'Burning of the Midnight Lamp', 'All Along the Watchtower', 'Voodoo Child'. :))))))) I don't know how to do the stars
