My first album to listen on this journey. Nice.
Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers (1976) – 3.3/5
This debut album from Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers delivers solid, easygoing rock with a laid-back charm. The sound is undeniably smooth, blending rock and roll with a touch of new wave energy. While the album is enjoyable to listen to, none of the songs left a lasting impression on me. It’s good background music—pleasant but not particularly memorable. I can appreciate the craftsmanship, but it’s not an album I see myself returning to often.
Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs – Derek and the Dominos – 3.3/5
Eric Clapton delivers smooth melodies and great guitar tones, making for an easy, pleasant listen. However, aside from the few tracks, none of the songs stuck with me.
Only By The Night – Kings of Leon – 3.4/5
This album was everywhere during my high school days, with its biggest hits playing in clubs, on the radio, and covered by countless bands. The music was widely accepted by teens at the time, but it’s not my style—memorable due to its popularity, but not something I’d revisit often.
Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band – The Beatles – 4.2/5
A classic from The Beatles, this album was a great listen—enjoyable, creative, and flowed effortlessly, making time pass quickly. The mix of experimental sounds and catchy melodies keeps it engaging, and I can see why it’s considered one of their best. I like The Beatles, and this album reinforces why they’re legendary.
No Sleep 'Til Hammersmith (Live) – Motörhead – 1/5
Not really my type of music—raw, loud, and aggressive, but it doesn’t click with me. The only highlight was Ace of Spades, the one song I knew, but beyond that, it wasn’t an enjoyable listen.
Paranoid – Black Sabbath – 3.9/5
A solid album with a great vibe and well-paced songs—not too heavy, which makes it more enjoyable for me. I like it, but it’s not something I’d listen to every day. Definitely a classic with a strong atmosphere.
Kala – M.I.A. – 1/5
Not really my type—too much drumming, odd rhythms, and layered vocals that didn’t sit well with me. The only song I liked and knew was Paper Planes, which is very famous, but the rest of the album wasn’t an enjoyable listen for me.
Stripped – Christina Aguilera – 1/5
Some songs were fun when I was 10-11, mostly at disco parties, but nothing special. Listening to it now, the album doesn’t do much for me.
Wish You Were Here – Pink Floyd – 5/5
A timeless classic that I first listened to in high school, and it still holds up as one of the greats. The album is a reflection on loss, alienation, and the downfall of former bandmate Syd Barrett, whose struggles with mental health and the pressures of fame inspired Shine On You Crazy Diamond. It also critiques the cold, profit-driven nature of the music industry, especially in Welcome to the Machine and Have a Cigar. The title track, Wish You Were Here, is one of the most powerful songs about absence and longing. Pink Floyd’s music is forever, and seeing Roger Waters live eight years ago made me appreciate it even more.
Survivor – Destiny's Child – 2/5
An old memory from childhood, but never really my style. It was hugely popular at the time, and I remember hearing it everywhere, though it didn’t leave a lasting impact on me.
Machine Gun Etiquette – The Damned – 3/5
I think this was my first time listening to them, and I don’t really remember much from before. It was fun, energetic, and made for a surprisingly good shower listen.
Cosmo's Factory – Creedence Clearwater Revival – 3/5
It was okay overall—good music but nothing that really grabbed me this time. Maybe I just wasn’t in the mood, and I don’t even remember if I had listened to it before.
Different Class – Pulp – 3/5
Good vibes and catchy Britpop energy. I think it’s my first time hearing Pulp, and it was an enjoyable listen overall.
Sound of Silver – LCD Soundsystem – 3.2/5
Good music with nice vibes and a cool groove throughout. I think this was my first time hearing it, and overall it was an enjoyable listen.
