Head Hunters by Herbie Hancock
Mar 15 2025

Love the intro to the first 3 tracks. especially love when the African influenced come more front and center without overpowering the more traditional jazz elements. The last track lost me a bit because it was missing the energy of the first 3.

Play by Moby
Mar 18 2025

I appreciate the minimalism in most of the tracks. They're very easy to listen to, and don't feel overly in your face. Definitely like it most when it feels like an ambient album, the more repetitive dancey parts I can definitely miss. I like the second half of the tracklist better than the first with the exception of porcelain.

Mar 19 2025

I can appreciate this and James Brown is undoubtedly an amazing vocalist, but it's just not my thing. Live performances are rarely as interesting to me to listen to out of context like this, and the screaming and stuff (very 60s) just puts me off a bit. The second track is stellar, I'd definitely listen to it again. The medley goes crazy. I wasn't huge on the last track either but this album is worth it for the medley alone.

White Blood Cells by The White Stripes
Mar 20 2025

I have a similar problem with all the white stripes albums: I like some of the tracks, but the albums as a whole feel so repetitive I can't imagine myself willfully choosing to listen through one without something like this to keep me going. I like the parts of this album that remind me a little of you are free by cat power. The overplayed hits are all good but I can't really get behind them either since they've been done to death. Overall a good but not great album.

Mar 21 2025

I feel like every track starts out and I don't love it but by the end I'm like "damn okay." I don't love the last track but overall this is a good record.

Deep Purple In Rock by Deep Purple
Mar 22 2025

I'm not a big fan of this style of rock so my rating and review will definitely be a biased one. My favorite parts of this album are the bits where it sounds like a zeppelin album, but even in those moments it just isn't as interesting or compelling. I appreciate the artistry but I just found myself tired by the longer tracks. My rating will be my own personal rating.

Technique by New Order
Mar 24 2025

I didn't really like the first track and it made me worried I wasn't going to be that into this record, but the moment the second track kicked up I knew I was wrong. The rest of the tracks are so incredibly great in an easy to listen to sort of way. It's at its best when this feels like a follow-up to joy division but that isn't a knock against the rest. It's all great, and I'll definitely be seeking out an LP of this.

Apr 25 2025

Classic album, in retrospect maybe my favorite overall of their discography. They never really recreated the vibe inherent to this record. The highs aren't as high as fwn but it's still really solid album. My overall turn away from this era of britrock does take it down a bit
