Hip-shakin' energy! "Maggot Brain" - good guitar work.

Title song: Neil doing a slight Dylan intonation. All the music all around him - girl singers & rhythm - all good. I like "The Losing End (When You're On)."

Bob Marley's street creds characterizes his music. You imagine open air, street noises, people meeting and greeting, dogs wandering and yipping, produce stands. It's flavored with righteous R&B. He doesn't shy from good will, either. ("No Woman, No Cry," "Them Belly Full But We Hungry"). Through it all is that relentless reggae beat pulsing through.

Part of the soundtrack of my time in the Oregon Cascades, shirking authorities and listening to the silence (occasionally interrupted by the jake breaks of the logging trucks).

"Just the Way You Are" is representative of this album of thoughtful, groovin', well-produced pop tunes.

Very ambitious. Impressive production. Urgent vibe. Future rap? "Cold War" has a forceful smoothness to it. "Suite III Overture" more my speed. "Neon Valley Street" reminiscent of Rodgers & Hart tune, "With a Song in My Heart." "57821 (feat. Deep Cotton)" - Now we're talking! (Or should I say crooning?)
