1001 Albums Summary

Individual Song thoughts: 1 - Consider me surprised. This song is pretty rockin'. I've only heard One Way Or Another before, so this has me a bit shocked how much I enjoyed it. Feels like so many bands would be influenced by this group 2 - Heard before. Still don't love it, just a bit cheesy. Didn't notice the growl of her voice before, which was cool. 3 - Pleasant! Enjoy the chorus. 4 - Epic dramatic opening, almost reminds me of prog. Lyrics come in and I'm shook. Insanely good instrumentals. Vocals of song don't really build anywhere, but it's more of a mood. 5 - Cool vocals. Nice song. 6 - VERY strange. Male vocals are off. 7 - Fun. I like her vocals so much. I can see this album being a good one to put on all the way through more than individual songs. 8 - Forward moving jam that feels kinda punk (almost). Chorus good. Such versatility in the breadth of songs this album has. 9 - Summery, sweet, fun. 10 - OH SHE DID THIS SONG TOO? THIS SONG IS SUCH A BOP. 11- Fun. Okay for a deep cut. 12 - Kind of cheesy, but not bad. Overall: Saved to my profile. Will definitely listen to this one again.

It has many huge, operatic, energetic jams that will make you bang your head, but as a whole, it can be pretty exhaustingly repetitive. You could easily pull out any of these songs and have it be a perfectly good addition to your metal playlist, but I frankly grew a bit tired listening to it as an album. The lyrics and vocal performances are quite corny and over the top, which works better for me on some songs, but not all. As far as metal goes, Iron Maiden is not my preferred flavor. Elliott Smith has a pretty voice and gentle, melancholic songs. This album is a pretty short and breezy listen, though, a bit one-note. I think if you enjoy that particular note, it's very good at it. I can't help but feel that if I were in a state of sadness or depression, this album would resonate with me much more, as it makes for good "sad music." Well done, but not my thing!

Favorite Beatles album. Back-to-back fantastic exploration of music and genres.
