Surfer Rosa
PixiesSome absolute bangers, but a couple misses for me as well. But I do feel like I appreciated it more the further I listened. So will probably give it another listen and maybe I'll feel differently.

I just kind of don't love The Boss. I really don't like his singing voice. Like at all. The music is good but not mind blowing. The lyrics are okay. Just solidly mid for me.
There's no bad on this one, but also nothing that sent this one for me.
Love this album. No misses.
Surprise hit for me. I thought all the songs would sound the same but it was surprisingly dynamic.
Not one that I will probably go back to and nothing that really stands out. But I really appreciated it in a more passive way. I could hear the influences on more modern R&B music that this album has had and that elevated it for me.
So I can see how this album would have been important and influential at the time. If you asked me what decade it came out I would have said the 1980s, not 70s, which speaks to how "ahead of its time" it might have been. That all being said, it just wasn't a great listen. Might be really good for like background noise while working.
I thought I was going to love this. Her voice is beautiful. But then about halfway through I realized I just didn't? Maybe it's just an issue of mixed expectations. I know I love her older work.
A lot of it sounds the same, but when the same is "More Than A Feeling" that's a-okay.
Sometimes variety means you're versatile. Other times it means you're Applebee's. Doing everything okay but nothing great. That's kind of how I felt listening to this. It was honestly a big of a slog and it mostly just made me want to listen to other artists that I felt did "that thing" better. It's like if you put The Mamas and the Papas, The Zombies, The Beatles, and Jim Croce all together and then made them mediocre. Normally two stars, but 1 extra start for "Somebody to Love" and "White Rabbit"
What's the difference between music and noise? Is it melody? Is it rhythm? Do you need to have both or is one enough? You should listen to this album, but you don't need to. As someone else on here said, one star means you didn't get it. I definitely get it, but I still don't really like it. Two stars.
