Heroes by David Bowie
Apr 17 2025

It's interesting, I usually really like noise music. Lots of layers and experimental sounds. Not sure why this isn't hitting me. I feel like this generally suffers in terms of the mixing. I think everything is kind of muddled together and trying to shine through, but again I don't reallt think its doing it for me. Middle of the album definitely picks up but overall i find this rather boring and not all that enjoyable. However I must also admit there is probably a lot of "Simpsons did it" stuff going on here where I've listed to so much post rock that clearly borrow/was inspired by this album that it makes me wonder how much of the boring feeling I get is a product of that

What's Going On by Marvin Gaye
Apr 18 2025

Wow! Vibrant, fun, and full. I wasn't alive when this word was used but I can only imagine it was labeled as "Groovy." Its so interesting how this sound feels so nostalgic to me, without any previous connection to it. The lyrics lose me a little bit, but that's okay because overall love the messaging. Great album and very deserving of its spot on the list.

Apr 19 2025

Very filling guitar sounds and im really liking the juxtaposition of the harder bass tone to Bonos soft voice. Overall though, I don't think its anything mind blowing. I enjoyed it, will probably put it on again in the future. But nothing about this screams "must listen". Pleasant and Digestible, but lacking in significant power.

Bad by Michael Jackson
Apr 20 2025

This album is surprisingly aggressive. The mixing on the synth and drums really make it hit. But still Michael's voice shines through in contrast. Man in the mirror was a real stand out for me. I do feel like the value in this album comes from the production. Having said that I'm not sure I fully understand it's inclusion on this list. Solid album, but I think he has other more grand works. This one feels so dated and a product of its time. Still enjoy it. Still not sure how I feel listening to him in the context of his actions.

Tracy Chapman by Tracy Chapman
Apr 22 2025

What an amazing ability to story tell and really pull at the heart. Very easy listening, which in part is due to Tracy's amazing voice. It gets a little samey at some points but I can't really complain. Love the run time of the album too. Nothing feels forced at all. Will definitely be revisiting this often.

Duck Stab/Buster & Glen by The Residents
Apr 23 2025

Surreal. Will not listen again. But wow the sounds that are produced are kinda sick. Especially considering how little equipment they would have had in comparison to today. Definitely not a pleasant feeling, but it certainly invokes discomfort and panic at some points. With fairytale like lyrics and some really evil wizard of oz wizard type vocals, I can't help but feel intrigued. Seems like music is the only form of art where we are shocked when discomfort is portrayed. I wont say I'm a fan, but I am impressed.

Oedipus Schmoedipus by Barry Adamson
Apr 24 2025

It's always a pleasure when you get to use the word cinematic to describe music. Great sax work. Interesting story telling. Great mix of funk, jazz, and rock. If you can't make a movie, making this album is the next best thing.

Disraeli Gears by Cream
Apr 25 2025

Definitely a staple psychedelic rock album, but honestly not much more too it than that. It kind of makes sense that the only song i know from this is Sunshine of Your Love. Nice riffs, halfway decent vocals. Not for me.

A Date With The Everly Brothers by The Everly Brothers
Apr 27 2025

I'm not sure if this album predates all the really iconic 60s music or if it's a super generic album. Fun songs and catchy tunes though. Loving the length of the songs/album. If I was a teenage boy fanning over a girl in the 60s I'd probably have this on repeat.

I don't get the smiths. I wish I got the smiths. The mixing feels awful and cluttered. I don't think Morrissey has a good voice. I think post punk is dumb and took the idea of punk and ruined it. Maybe there is good music in here somewhere but even on a remastered release I am baffled with the choices. Grating to say the least
