Natty Dread by Bob Marley & The Wailers
Apr 18 2025

RH - First of the 1001 albums. First time listening to a Bob Marley album. Very comforting and full of joy, despite including protest songs and alluding to hardship. I guess this is what a lullaby is at its highest aspiration: familiar and soothing, especially during difficult times.

Funky fun

Odessey And Oracle by The Zombies
Apr 22 2025

Felt like the band went through a metamorphosis as the album progressed, culminating in the hit single, "Time of the Season". The songs start out sounding very 'flowery' and hopeful, incorporating overlays and harmonies. Towards the end of the album, however, the sounds felt more polished and interesting. It may also represent the transition from the 60s to the 70s.

The standout of the album, "Everybody Hurts", starts out like Elvis's "Can't Help Falling in Love", which instantly sets the tone. Both beautiful songs that generations to come can relate to.

The Downward Spiral by Nine Inch Nails

Didn't get it. First listen, it sounded like noise. Couldn't relate to the music, which may be a good thing. Perhaps I need to listen to it again.

Fun! Before my time, but somehow nostalgic.
