First album I'm listening to in this project!
I've never really listened to The Smiths before but I have been meaning to so I was happy to get this album.
I liked the album and the music's vibe/energy. The lyrics were interesting, and in most songs, I enjoyed them and their descriptive/story-telling nature. One thing was I did feel like some songs dragged on a bit, like in Never Had No One Ever (even though I like the instrumentals, I feel like it lasted a bit long at the end).
Favourites:
- The Queen is Dead
- Cemetry Gates
- Bigmouth Strikes Again
- There is a Light That Never Goes Out
Album No. 2
I liked the energy of all the songs, but the lyrics and songs did all seem to be kind of similar, which makes sense for one project I guess. Although TV Dinners was rather different (not sure I liked it that much). I think the lyrics in the album are definitely more fun than introspective and poetic.
I've never heard of the artist before so I am happy I had a listen. There were a lot of guitar solos, which I won't say anything positive or negative about.
Overall I would rate the album a 3.5 if I could but I'll go with 3 because I's rate more songs as 3 than 4.
Favourites:
- Gimme All Your Lovin'
- Sharp Dressed Man
- If I Could Only Flag Her Down
Album No. 3
Coming into this, I'd never heard of Supergrass. I enjoyed the sound tone and production of the songs. I liked the uniqueness of some songs like Sofa (Of My Lethargy) and it was an enjoyable album in a genre I'm not used to (UK punkish kind of music).
I would rate it a solid 3.5 if I could but I'll put it as a 4.
Favourites:
- I'd Like to Know
- She's so Loose
- Sofa (Of My Lethargy)
Album No. 4
I've heard a lot about Frank Ocean but I've only ever really hear Pink and White (not on this album) and I have been meaning to listen to him.
I love the relaxed energy coupled with the nice vocals, it feels very pleasant to listen to and its an overall nice, pretty experimental album. The production is very nice too and creates the sort of ambience the album has.
Favourites:
- Thinkin Bout You
- Sweet Life
Album No. 5
Never heard a song by The Who but have heard of the artist. This was a long album in terms of number of tracks (though to be fair most of the tracks are rather short) and so I didn't really focus much on any of the songs I wasn't engaged in but I like the energy and sound of the tracks overall. I think if the album was a bit less long and I guess dramatic I would rate it higher. The tracks definitely have an older feel to them but not in a necessarily outdated way. I like the whole concept of the storyline, and I enjoy albums that are very cohesive but I'm not sure if I'm a fan of the whole very like almost musical-theatre style storytelling.
Would rate it a 2.5 but I may put it down to a 2. Who knows if my opinion will change in the future.
Favourites:
- Pinball Wizard
- Go To The Mirror!
- Smash The Mirror
Album No.6
Came into this album only having heard the iconic Jump, but left actually enjoying it. Even the opening/title track has an air of mystery and intrigue. I love the energy on this album. It's a short album but it uses that time effectively. I think what lost a better rating for me was maybe how repetitive it is? Or maybe how similar the tracks are?
Would give it a 3.5, rounding it down to a 3 because I sort of lost interest with some tracks.
Favourites:
- Jump
- Panama
- I'll Wait
Album No.7
I don't really listen to too much rap so probably because I'm not into the genre, I didn't really enjoy it too much, and I felt like it was very long. It didn't really engage me much. Some tracks were good but I wouldn't listen to any by choice.
Would give it 1.5/5
Favourites:
- Guillotine (Swordz)
- Ice Cream
Album No.8
I believe this is my first impression of Neil Young. Overall I'd describe the album as mediocre or a bit worse. There's no particularly horrid part of it, the vocals could be better but they're sort of tolerable I guess (not as much in certain songs like verses in Over and Over). I didn't like the longer songs as much particularly, like the instrumental section in Country Home. The album wasn't the most engaging.
I'd give it a 1.5/5
Favourites:
- White Line
- Mansion on the Hill
- Days that Used to Be
Album No.9
I find this album pretty mediocre. It's an interesting project but I feel loses some engagement through more boring instrumental sections (however the interesting ones are good). I think it is probably the type of album that grows on you with repeat listens.
I'd give it a 2 or 2.5
Favourites:
- I Know What I Like (In Your Wardrobe)
- Firth of Fifth
