Something Else By The Kinks
The Kinks
Favourite song: Waterloo sunset. I had known Waterloo sunset for a while and it’s a great song but the rest of the album fell short of it for me. Still liked it and think it would be worth a second listen where I’m paying more attention to it. 7.0/10

Favourite songs: Run for the hills, Gangland. Good old 80s metal. Iron maiden has never really been my typa band but this album was pretty enjoyable. 6.6/10 😉

Favourite songs: hand in my pocket (I guess). Albums fairly diverse which is nice but it didn’t really enthrall me at any point. 5.9/10

Fiona Apple
Favourite songs: Sullen Girl, Shadowboxer, Carrion*
Doesn’t blow your mind by any means, definitely an album intended for a female audience so didn’t much resonate with me… Okay I’ve listened to those three songs a few times now and I’m a much bigger fan after a couple listens, moving my score up from a 6.4.. 7.2/10

Parsley, Sage, Rosemary And Thyme
Simon & Garfunkel
Favourite songs: Scarborough fair, the dangling conversation. I’ve obviously heard much of this album before but not all of it. I see 1966 as the last year before the explosion of rock music and by virtue music as a whole and this is demonstrated with this album. At times you can feel the new sound emerging in songs like ‘The Big Bright Green Pleasure Machine’ which almost has a British Invasion tint to it. In others like ‘cloudy’ we hear the classic Simon and Garfunkel sound that they replicated across their discography. ‘The Dangling Conversion’ which is a song I had not heard before reminds of the sort of social revolution of academia I think of the in the early 1960s. The nod to Dylan was cool in ‘The 59th Street Bridge Song’. All in all, I liked this album but prefer some of their later work, especially Bookends. 7.8/10

The Beach Boys Today!
The Beach Boys
Three things I’ll never understand: astrophysics, mandarin, and how on earth people compare the Beach Boys with the Beatles. I must be missing something here because for years I’ve listened to various beach boys albums with the hopes of finally understanding why the beach boys are held in the regard that they are. All of their songs from the 60s sound the exact same to me — yada yada dancing yada yada vacation destination yada yada young girls. I find their music formulaic and thus repetitive. I assume it must be something with the technical side of the music and seeing as I can’t play an instrument to save my life, it goes over my head. But alas, Brian Wilson died yesterday so rest in peace, I hope one day the beach boys finally click for me. 6.0/10

Favourite songs: all of em. This album rules, made me feel cool while cutting grass. Calling jimmy page a pedo while also sampling zep like three times is funny af. Been a big fan of this album since I was like 7, no complaints. 9.1/10
