The title track was solid. This album was a somewhat goofy collection of outlaw themed crooner country with some songs that I found more listenable than others. It's a fun listen, not exactly something I would wear the grooves out of but it made me smile on the drive to work.
I started out not liking this one and thinking I'd rate it worse than "I'm a Lonesome Fugitive" but this one grew on me. I really appreciated On the Sunny Side. This being an album of covers, the song selection was cool but I questioned whether Willie Nelson did some of the originals justice. I think this deserves better than a 1 but a 3 may be pushing it even though I went back for some songs later on in the day. If I could give it a 2.5 I would.
A true classic. A lot of nostalgia from my Beatles phase and memories of playing Beatles rock band with my friends. A few hits so I think this deserves a 3. It’s not my absolute favorite though and I don’t know about it being a perfect album so 4/5 may be too much.
Solid album if you’re into bluesy rock. Had a few lulls but overall not bad. Rocks Off, Torn and Frayed, and Tumbling Dice were highlights.
This was a catchy one. I really enjoyed the production and composition for the most part but the lyrics were kinda tough. I think it may just be a product of its time but if the lyrics were just a bit better and less hippy sounding for more of the album I would have liked it more. “Time of the Season” is great, “cell 44” is solid, “Beechwood Park” was one that stood out for great production/etc. but the lyrics fell flat and were a bit off.
This was a nice album with a swing feel to it. I really enjoyed the first few songs but the album was a little fatiguing after that. Ray Charles has a really great voice and I enjoyed the arrangements and songs so I think giving it another listen would be worth while. I think I would rate it a 2.5 or 3.
This was an alright album. It was enjoyable to listen to but nothing really stood out, it may take another listen to really appreciate it. I liked the vibe but I would give this a 2.5 if half ratings were possible.
This album was a cool vibe but only the first few songs were memorable. I’m not much of a funk guy but it’s undeniable how talented these people are, I just had a hard time really getting into it.
This album was another with undeniably talented musicians and sonically was good but it just dragged a bit for me. The brass was a bit fatiguing to listen to and tracks like “Free Form Guitar” “Liberation” just took up too much time. That being said the high points on this album were “Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is”, “Questions 67 and 68” and “Someday”, and they were great songs. I’d give this one a 2.5 probably.
Was fine background music while working, I wasn’t able to finish it though because it was very long and not incredibly interesting. It wasn’t necessarily bad but not great. It kind of reminded me of DJ Shadows “Entroducing…” a bit but not as good. I think this gets a 1/5 unfortunately.
This was an interesting album. Brian Wilson is clearly incredibly gifted as far as composition is concerned. This kind of reminded me of some outsider music like Daniel Johnston lyrically but with very interesting production. Rest in Peace Brian Wilson.
I really enjoyed this one all the way through, steady enjoyable songs for the most part.
Not quite my style but very a interesting listen.
