Some fantastic songwriting, and I particularly like the first track, but an album of Dylan's voice is always hard for me.
Fantastic album, possibly their best, in my opinion.
Great guitar tones, catchy hit singles, but ultimately ZZ Top are just boring to me. Repetitive riffs and beats, a lack of songwriting flexibility and creativity, and they just don't seem to have much to say beyond "women hot."
Polished in every way, it shines like a waxed floor. Catchy writing, sophisticated arrangements. Maybe I'm a miserable git but it's all just a bit bright, shiny, and superficial for me :D A bit like ZZ Top, it lacks emotional and lyrical depth. There is some filler on this album - Dum Dum Diddle?
Early Stones which suffers a bit by comparison of what followed. Songwriting skills and musicianship were still in their infancy. Mothers Little Helper and Under My Thumb are the standouts that have best withstood the passage of time.
This is more my jam.
The most sixties of all sixties bands. You can hear the influences: Beatles, Beach Boys, Bob Dylan, Grateful Dead, psychedelic bands like the 13th Floor Elevators and Pink Floyd. Some beautiful melodic tracks and harmonies but they veer off course into pretentious naval-gazing at times.
Nice vocals, good production. Perfectly pleasant, just a bit bland.
I enjoyed this a lot. Stand out track might have been 'Trust.'
I'm already familiar with this one, and it's great. Groovy and cerebral.
I gave it a go. I don't like the man or his image, so we were not off to a good start. But the whispery vocals can f*ck right off. This is just not my bag and it never will be, so apart from the opening track, it was a skip from me.
Smooth jazz with a warmth and lightness of tone. Very pleasant.
I found it a bit one-note, but some really well-written songs.
