1001 Albums Summary

Heart-Shaped Box, Rape Me, Dumb, Radio Friendly Unit Shifter and All Apologies are my highlights. Other songs are mostly fine. Steve Albini's fingerprints can be spotted easiest close to the start of the album, especially in the guitars reminiscent of Big Black. The goal was to be abrasive, and it succeeds - I found it exhausting to listen to in one go. On an objective level there's not a single song I wouldn't like or at least enjoy, but I'm not objective, and I found it samey and a bit tiresome by the time we pass the second song.

A short listen, but I couldn't imagine a better introduction to Johnny Cash. What an incredible performer, and what an incredible album. The wit, charm and empathy on display sell the record and make the great songs so much more enjoyable. If it isn't a masterpiece then it is close, I am torn between rating this a 4 or a 5. We will see how I feel tomorrow. I've decided to rate it 5, to reflect that it is amazing and not simply really good. I doubt we'll find albums I'd call a 10/10 anyway, so a 9 will be rounded up to 5 stars.

A really nice listen that's easy on the ears, something I can definitely see myself having on in the background. Sadly it didn't make me lose myself in the music as much as I lost focus after a while, but a positive experience overall.

I have this one on vinyl!! Incredible record, with an interesting and varied tracklist. A very fun listen.

Very different sound from what I expected, NIN is like the metal version of Linkin Park.

I might just have a poor attention span, but this didn't really capture me.
