Orange Crush is a huge track but I was underwhelmed by the rest of the album.
I loved so many moments of this album, and the sound that The Cure keep consistent throughout it. I would say that it was a bit ponderous at times, and that Robert Smith's vocal tone started to wear on me. Nevertheless, about 5 tracks made it onto my "1001 albums best-of" playlist so pretty tough to give it less than 3/5. Oh, and "Lullaby" fucks.
An incredible album, with his usual panache and style Carlos Santana plays magnificently throughout it. It's filled with great instrumental jams and features the incredible Black Magic Woman. Even though his style and flavour is absolutely unique, I just think that it doesn't have enough huge hits for me to give it 5 stars.
Love this album, mostly. I just watched the Peter Jackson "Get Back" documentary, where Harrison takes a few of the songs that end up on this seminal solo album to McCartney and Lennon, where he is met with fierce indifference. It seems to me that Harrison's songwriting prowess was a force that was too great for the egos of The Beatles. A few standouts for me are "Wah-Wah", "Isn't It a Pity", "Run of the Mill", and of course the title track, "All Things Must Pass". Harrison has such a melancholic and introspective tone in his music and lyrics, it is captivating. The only reason this doesn't get a 5 is because there's definitely a bit of chaff toward the end.
I had fun listening to this short, punky album that starts with such a bang. Deceptacon is the best, and by far most popularly known song, I also enjoyed Hot Topic. The instrumentation is completely unique, and the style is really consistent throughout the album. However, at times I found some of the tracks repetitive and overall I feel like the album isn't long or complicated enough to be more than 3/5.
