The first song, "Show Me", was the best one, it has a good bassline. The only other 2 songs I thought were remotely good are, "Poison Arrow" and "4 Ever 2 Gether". This is being generous, I really don't care for this generic 80's sound. Admittedly this is 1982, and for it's time it may have been exciting. The instrumentation is interesting, but the composition is bland. Stereotypical 80's chart toppers.
This album feels more complete to me than something like Demon Days. Demon Days is definitely flush with more hits, but this is Gorillaz at their most interesting and raw.
I've always heard about A Tribe Called Quest but never got around to giving them a listen. I love how jazzy and smooth this album is. "Excursions" is an all-time opener in my opinion.
1. Jazz (We've Got)
2. Excursions
3. What?
None of it is "bad", not at all. Completely inoffensive, perfectly adequate, laid-back background music. I'm fond of jazz, even smooth jazz, but this just feels so sterile and lacking in nuance. She has a wonderful voice for sure, but idk this just doesn't do it for me, there's no soul in those horns man. If I wanted to throw on some jazz I would choose almost anything else.
Not much to say, a few classics here but overall this album just leaves me wishing I were listening to The Raconteurs.
I have never listened to Neil Young, this album surprised me. Sorry for the backwards comparisons, but I am from a younger generation. Songs like "Thrasher" remind me of The Mountain Goats, and as crazy as this feels to say, and it is not something I was expecting at the tail-end of this album, "Sedan Delivery" sounds like an early prototype of Pixies. Very Francis Black-esque vocals, and while the instrumentation isn't as "strange" as a Pixies song might be, the tempo changes are there. Really neat album considering the the time period.
Clearly a skilled musician, but man I really do not care for sitar. The covers are certainly interesting, but the best song is the last one.
I really don't like the rolling stones, every song sounds the same to me. Not unlistenable, just really boring. Best songs here are Sway and Moonlight Mile.
