Mask by Bauhaus
Aug 12 2025

Interesting listen from a band I had literally never heard of. I enjoyed almost everything for it's very specific vibe, but didn't take away any stand out songs. The sound was a mix of 80s synths and guitars with B52s-esque vocal stylings. I don't think I've truly listened to what is truly considered 'goth rock', on thinking about it, that's a label I would expect The Cure to fall under. Perhaps they do? Anyway, the eccentric arrangements and odd rhythms were inspiring. Odd choices like dueling melodic guitar figures suddenly bursting out almost atonally over the title track is cool. Does make me think making weird choices per your instinct is the way to make something good.

A Hard Day's Night by Beatles
Aug 13 2025

I mean obviously a certified classic. I hadn't heard it in a long time, and revisiting it reminded me how good some of the little flourishes on this album are. And showed me ones I don't think I'd heard before.

The guitars and electronic textures combined with the slinky vocals make this is a great sounding record. Some tracks stand out for their hooks, like Queer, but nearly all of them sound great.

Rust Never Sleeps by Neil Young & Crazy Horse

Not my favourite but a decent album. Might need a closer listen.

Harvest by Neil Young

Lovely, mellow and warm. Some of Neil's best songs on here.
