Meh, just not my vibe. Felt like it was lacking and not striking any chords for me. So Real was the only one that really reached out and grabbed me. Likely because the song sounded like something Led Zeppelin would put out. Finding out that he passed away shortly after this album dropped does give it a more haunting feel. Whether it be my taste or not, he was quite talented lyrically. Rest in peace.
Okay, I immediately felt something as soon as I heard Son of Sam. Vibing through the rest of the album right now. Giving me a trippy and nostalgic feel like 90s indie pop from a tortured soul. Solid 4 out of 5.
Right off the bat heard the song that defined the decade at the time and still stands true nearly 20 years later. This album has been able to stand the test of time. Catching the Butterfly had me thinking I was listening to Muse at first. Love the psychedelic spin on rock. Sounds like the soundtrack to every 90s/early 2000s movie I was obsessed with growing up.
Just not my vibe and that’s okay.
Shocked that I never really listened to the Ramones before. Now having done so, I realize I wasn’t missing much. I found it hard to discern many of the songs from one another. They definitely have their own sound and that sound is in every song without fail. That’s both good and bad. It’s like they want every one of their songs to be a rock anthem and it becomes tired. I don’t really have an ear for instruments but it sounded like a lot of the same chord progressions in each song. Literally didn’t realize the song had changed at one point because it sounded the exact same. Maybe I’m being overly harsh, but had higher hopes for the band that was plastered on every teenagers shirt in the 2010s.
What an absolute legend. Pop usually isn’t my cup of tea, but how can anyone resist dancing and singing along to Michael?
Sorry, but this is absolutely not my vibe. Had to skip through a lot of it. Some people live for this style of music, but I have never been able to find enjoyment in it. Maybe I just to be rolling face or something 🤷🏻♀️ It did lead to me searching how many songs have sampled these so that was fun to read about.
So I always had the assumption that The Beatles were too boy band and pop heavy for me. I’m pleased that this album proved just how wrong I was. Thoroughly enjoyed it and the wide range of songs. Love the freedom they had to be able to genre bend like they did.
The album starts off with a bang. I think that might actually be one of the only songs I really know by them which is sad to admit (besides Sweet Child O’ Mine). Otherwise, I don’t love it. Feels like I’m sitting in my local dive bar surrounded by a bunch of boomers smoking menthols and wearing clothes they most certainly should’ve left in the 70s/80s. That’s just me being a brat though.
Instantly felt like I was transported into a high stakes movie scene showing a montage of the character piecing together all the information they have to solve whatever it is. Found out after it is the theme song for The Exorcist which explains why I was mesmerized. After a while though, it just simply became background music for me during my work day. Soothing and awe inspiring that he played each instrument, but likely a one time only listen for me.
Who doesn't love Paper Planes?
This album feels so comforting.
Feel so at peace.
Feels like a 90s film montage or something out of the show Skins. Not my vibe really.
And to think I've gone my whole life without listening to Iggy Pop...glad that changed today.
Okay, but just not really my vibe.
