OK - alien beep bop to start us off - I see you. Gorgeous cover art. They're from Manchester? I wonder how many times I've heard their music in a set and didn't know. Pacific 202 is a vibe, jazzy space station (reading a book set in NASA/Space so feeling all very connected), almost sounds like bird recordings. Lastly released in 1989 - wild.
In Big Daddy Dyl's top 5 albums of all time. After a slightly lethal combo of pet nat and hazy IPAs last night, the husky tones and velvet guitar is exactly what my brain needs right now. Fender Stratocaster - who knew
"I know smart people who like Zappa. People who read books and shit." - Tommy Cordery. Not the voice I expected. If I had a moustache, I would want his. Makes me want to close my eyes and play the air guitar. Son of Mr Green Genes - the piano runs are big ASMR brain ticklers. This sounds like: I used to not like anchovies but now I'm dipping my fingers into them.
Wasn't planning on feeling melancholy today but the Lord(e) had other plans. First time listening was interrupted with the classic 'turn down to think'. Second time listening through the trusty plug ins and I could show the undulating poetry some respect. Master Song - Hardanger Fiddle - the vibrations are their own notes. The Stranger Song - "Like any dealer he was watching for the card that is so high and wild. He'll never need to deal another. He was just some Joseph looking for a manger" - tea. So Long, Marianne - makes me feel like Julie Andrews/Sound Of Music mountain spins. Stories of the Street - "We are so small between the stars, so large against the sky. And lost among the subway crowds, I try to catch your eye", the week of cosmic connection. End of - One of Us Can't be Wrong - haunting. Why do I get the impression he was a playAh
Great cover art. Lazy bop listening on coffee run this morning. Still hold a special place for his Lion reggae album.
Sounded like a 1 hour 1 min long procession. Alternating between angry, melancholic, upbeat, funeral and space-age marches. Maybe it's the drums, repetitive chord progressions, choral backup singing, monotonous singing, a la video game loading sound track. IDK but I felt like I was in the mixer and not entirely the mixer I like visiting twice a week. Would've been sweeter if Enola Gay and Electricity were included. Glimmers of engagement and then I realised I kept subconsciously turning it off. Souvenir is a bop.
Punk rock meets country. I respect it but can't completely get around it. Whistling reminds me I desperately need to practice for the '25/26 festive season. Favourite lyrics include: "stumbling over tombstone shoes", "I play too hard when I ought to go to sleep", "shut up and smoke", "Presley sucked on doggie dicks", quality stuff. X was formed by a man called John Doe... take from that what you will.
This sounded like a poor man's Eagles. Apart from the slay cover art, this album gave me guitar hero PTSD.
All the songs sounded familiar but I couldn't say where from (morning anomia). The breathy flute in Watermelon Man is how I would explain White Lotus without playing their theme song. Vein Melter is a great Spotify playlist name. A quick ask to the shaman (Google) revealed Herbie has the strongest brow x glasses combo.
Wow this voice sounds almost like a male falsetto. OK read the history now, the vibrato is gorgeous. What a phenomenal force she is, back catalogue and collaboration list is insane. Its too sunny to be sad but I enjoyed this in the background.
Organ x Saxophone is what I will hear greeting me at the pearly gates. Loving the Lord(e) delivers me jazzy albums when I'm overindulged on le French vin. The drum beat is a sexy caress. Slay typography, case & point in using the same font & weight but using hierarchy of pt size and colour. Wonder why it was released 3 years after recording. Favourite instrument list updated: Fender Stratocaster & Hammond B3 organ.
More type !! And fun shapes and key lines !! "Sit back and let us groove
And let us work on you" - the groove-rock entered the ears, through the blood stream and manifested in some shimmy shimmy bopping while churning out the devil's agenda - rhymes with mud (no I'm not going to disrespect the word pub), ends with way. Some tracks quite experimental & not for me but I respect the mana. 'I'm a Man' makes me reflect that I've only heard one album by a woman so far, and this one is 10 men.
The algorithm must've heard me complaining. The intentional cracking on the backing track was confusing but now it kinda feels like a vinyl player if you close your eyes. TBH no notes. Seeing her tour with Outkast would've been bucket list.
Too many bands from the 60's. A lil bit bored. A morning recap always changes the mind slightly. The harmonies are gorgeous with headphones. A wise man once said rock climbing that 7/10 is a cop out rating, I'm lucky I don't need to worry about that for this album.
OoOooOo cousin to Norah Jones. Groovy twang. Coincidentally the covers are my favourite tracks. The cascading waterfall of runs in Light My Fire are serious ear ticklers. The bro was not here to fuck spiders.
I've lost a soldier - but the albums are keeping me company. An experimental German rock band means I can list all my favourite German words for no apparent reason: Fernweh // Torschulsspanik // Kopfkino // Geschirrklirren // Da haben wir den salat // Ohrwurm // Wolke
Sounds like it features in multiple movie soundtracks. The rolling waves in Leb Wohl are soothing.
Gravelly voice a result of copious darts? Melancholic marching - add the vibraphone to the instrument list. Thought he was American - maybe I can't pick an accent at all. Is the 1975s bit based off him?
Christina the Astonishing - perfect blend of warbling storytelling, the organ and ukelele. "Mainly using the body of his guitar without touching the strings" wot.
Including 2mins of applause is a power move. Loved the piano, the noises of effort and being in the zone. Runs tickle ears
The hair is difffffferent. My heart wasn't fully in it today. Bit of a slack listen/review/attention span etc etc. This was a bit sad/slow for moi
First glance - the religious motif in the album art is interesting but the constant changing of tempo and style within each song was a headache.
Spittin' facts. "Apathetic therapeutic and extremely addictive the methadone metronome pumping out a 150 channels 24 hours a day
you can flip through all of them and still there's nothing worth watching". Gorgeous stanza structures. Complete poetry, need to dissect the entire album on Genius.
Love me some graaain. I've been indoctrinated to love NY from birth but I will confess he's still at an arms length. Maybe one day my palette will mature to appreciate his strummin' and twangin'. OK - maybe I eat my words a little, some tracks sounded Eagle-esque and you know I love that non-bird entity. NY we may have a promising Q4.
Was very excited about this but tbh didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would. Found it unpolished compared to the tracks of BM&TW I'm used to hearing. Serving on the cover though. Tried to get back into it this AM and battled. Sad.
Whining. I couldn't finish that - punishing
A godsend from yesterday. Jazzy, funky, sensual. Listened twice it was so nice.
God has given me two things to spice up my monotonous working week - this and Cemantle. A humbling diurnal battle and proof some days are good and others are a shit sandwich. Half way through the album I couldn't listen anymore, but I did get 'valve' in 21 guesses... you can't have it all. 2 stars for non-finishing guilt
Gorgeous sweet sweet relief. More like this ploise
Operatic odyssey. Blistering paced - I wasn't ready for the tempo - but that's a me problem
Sexxxxxyyy. Synthy-organ-bass whatever - melt.
There are some days when I feel like I'm God's favourite. Couple tracks on this made me think maybe I've never heard this album in its entirety before. Still slaps. Aged like fine wine. If one of my siblings died I think I also would become a reculse
Another NY slay - knew most of the songs from Bruce Seymour assimilation
Liked this better than I thought I would. Couple repeat tunes: Crown of Love & Wake Up. Sounds even better with my newly acquired headphonezZzZzzz
Behind the wall is chilling. Goosebumps. Baby Can I Hold You is a TRACK. The wood/pan flute and marimba are ear scratchers. Beautiful voice, topical and sad lyrical subjects.
I put this in timeout yesterday because the first 20 seconds of track 1 were sooooo quiet I had the headphones up full volume and then it came in at normal volume and gave me such a fright. I get frights easily but this one set me up for a full day of angst. I will confess I didn't listen at all and this is my first transgression of this kind. Giving a 3 for guilt and complete guess
Groovy funky - kinds felt like he wrote random musings and is musically talented enough to make a song that doesn't sound shite.
