Truth And Soul by Fishbone
Sep 29 2025

There are some very good songs on this album, but I couldn't find the thread that connect one song to the next. It did not feel like a cohesive project as much as a collection of songs. However, Fishbone is clearly an innovative, ground-breaking, and extremely talented band.

The Chronic by Dr. Dre
Sep 30 2025

Legendary beats. Excellent flow. It's just too vulgar for my prudish sensibilities to give it five stars.

Natty Dread by Bob Marley & The Wailers
Oct 02 2025

I always think that Marley's live work is better than his studio albums. However, this is Marley at his best. Tight songs. Music that is still relevant today.

The Stranger by Billy Joel
Oct 08 2025

This is a masterpiece of pop music storytelling. The first seven tracks (including the divisive Scenes from an Italian Restaurant) are classics of the genre for a reason. They are brilliant musically and lyrically. The reminaing two songs are much less familiar, but I think that they would have been just as successful had they been released as singles. The album has to be in the top 10!

Highway 61 Revisited by Bob Dylan
Oct 09 2025

Dylan is unquestionably the best songwriter of any era. He is a Nobel Laureate for a reason. But, I can't enjoy listening to him sing. It is just terrible. The harmonica is worse. The harmonica playing alone drops my rating by 2 stars. I know that I am not stating anything revolutionary. The popular consensus is correct on Dylan's musicality.

1984 by Van Halen
Oct 10 2025

Meh. I remember when this album dropped and everyone, including me, was very excited. It was one of the prototypical albums of the emerging glam/hair metal sound. I don't think that it holds up 40 years later. The singles that got airplay are fine and probably the best songs on the album. "Hot for Teacher" really sounds problematic in 2025. "I'll Wait" is underrated and the best song on the album.
