Ok obviously we fucking love this one. Can’t believe this is my first album recommended to me. We love sparks in this household. This album is just so odd. So operatic. So camp. So drama. I adore it. 3.5/5.
I enjoyed this! 80s 80s 80s synths synths synths. I need to get more into it to really dig into the lyrics. But I’m really enjoying what I’m hearing. I went back to listen to elegia multiple times, it just sounds so barren and epic. All tho production makes me wanna dance. I am a shameless synth pop lover. 3.5/5
I like this, I’ll have to listen again. This grew on me. Not obsessed with the first half, but the back half creeps in and really made me enjoy this record more. Strange News from Another Star sounds like an old Bowie tune. I really like how they interpolate Song 2 into Movin’ On, huge fan of that. Also enjoyed the sound of Chinese Bombs…but so short! I had no idea this is where Song 2 came from! Also so short! And I had no idea that one of the creatives from this band went on to form Gorillaz. I’m happy I listened to this. But I don’t think it resonates greatly with me. 3/5
The who I love you.
It’s odd how much I love them while not really having listened to any of their non-Tommy material in full. Yowch. Wow. But not anymore!
But this is, of course, amazing. I love a song that grows, and all of these grow and tell such an exquisite story. The song is over into getting in tune… into going mobile…basically the entire track list is wonderful. I wonder how the original rock opera album was set up, and if it was in a similar order as this.
That episode of Joe Pera Talks With You when he’s listening to Baba O’Riley for the first time over and over again…yeah that’s just me with all of these. I see many a re-listen in my future with air drums. Daltrey’s vocals are sky high and exquisite. I love the slappy sound quality of the drums lol. I’m sure this one is gonna be a 5. I am no dad, but the dads are right about this one.
For some reason when I’d hear a Muse song here or there on the radio, it’d always mildly annoy me. Muse has never resonated with me, which is odd, because some of my favorite bands mark Muse as one of their inspirations. This album is the same, unfortunately. Hard hitting moments for sure, some good hooks, vocals are impressive. It ain’t bad, but nothing has particularly struck me or stuck with me. Why alas. 2.5/5 meh
I mean like classic. Starman. Rock n roll suicide. It ain’t easy. Suffragette city. He’s amazing here. I need to listen to this more. 4/5
This album sounds like it was leaked from an alternate universe. Like there is something so liminal about this while also just being so…chill? It seems as this album is existing on a slightly different plane of reality than our own. It leaves me slightly astonished and puzzled. I appreciate it, but I’m having a hard time connecting to it exactly.
It feels like I’m having taken on an auditory tour of the backrooms, there’s this weird sense of dread sewn into the fabric of the production.
Temptation of egg made me laugh and I enjoyed that song. Shiver sounds the most…normal? Enjoying the middle instrumental break in Way to End the Day.
(Are we sure Giant Sand didn’t compose the OFF video game soundtrack?)
I think that I will think about this album on future rainy days where I feel like I’m at a loss of what to do with my time. 3/5
