1001 Albums Summary

this record was my introduction to reggae as a whole. I wouldn’t say it was a revelation, but it did make me want to get more familiar with the genre. I enjoyed the tracks with a more personal, melancholic tone; will definitely add no more trouble and concrete jungle to my playlist. generally, though? I’m afraid catch a fire didn’t cling to my soul.

listened to this on my way to the tax office sleep deprived after having filled out the amount of paperwork which probably took an entire congolese rainforest to produce. needless to say the bloody bureaucrats have seen WRATH!! I only like one heavy metal band and IM is NOT it. the absurdly squeaky vocals, the lyrics which sound like they were written by a 12 year old me…instrumentals are ok though.

YES YES YES YES YES!!!!! so excited that 1001 gen made me come back to this. a record full of uniquely cinematic, thrilling, and haunting soundscapes. yet, it’s one of radiohead’s most accessible works. listening to it will make you feel like you’re that one brilliant misunderstood investigator from your mum’s favourite tv series shakily digging through case files in the middle of the night on your 17th cigarette in doom-bound attempts to escape childhood trauma and the sheer mess of your private life. simply sensational.

what can I say about the first ever concept album that hasn’t been said a million times before? sgt. pepper’s not just whim and experimentation in a cartoonish package, it’s an ode to artistic freedom. I did, in fact, enjoy the show. whoever invented lsd, thank you for giving us this masterpiece.

simply a well-made album with no claims to revolutionism or exceptional creativity. your good old laid-back san francisco rock. ideal for lighting one up on the uni stairs and contemplating life.

I bet there was a salary raise in the orthodontic industry in the late 70’s because of the tremendous amount of jaws dropping to the floor following the release of this. still goes hard today, though, both in the club and over homework. don’t even get me started on influence. so many artists — from british twinks with slickbacks of the 80’s to black fascists of today — owe their existence and popularity to kraftwerk, it’s insane. hell yeah
