Very long, very French, and kinda boring. Nothing crazy and songs kinda get repetitive. Not the worst by any means, just whatever and middle of the road. Standout songs: The Noise of Carpet and the title track.
I absolutely love SP and this is a great double album. The best? No, but still. I know others might think Corgan’s vocals get annoying or that the ideas lose steam at the end or that some of the lyrics are cringy, but I just can’t see that (well, maybe except that last point lol). It’s a rollercoaster that’s fun, punchy, and stupid. It’s also beautiful, raw, and captivating. That’s why I like it. I also think his vocals add to the album. He sounds weird, but I mean this whole thing is weird. A two-hour concept (but not really a concept?) album that goes from a song with beautiful stings to a song with heavy (almost metal?) drums/guitars back to a piano ballad is kind of weird. Maybe it’s because I grew up listening to them in my dad’s car, but I think this project goes by really fast and is great. When this album ends, I always feel a bit bittersweet. And that’s how I know an album is amazing, it makes me feel something beautiful. Standout songs: Bodies, Here Is No Why, and Jellybelly.
Fun. I really liked this album and it went by really quick. These four guys can really write music. Morrissey’s vocals are pretty and there is never a dull moment. Maybe a little whiney (looking at you Unhappy Birthday) but whatever, it’s The Smiths, what are you going to do. Fuck Morrissey for everything else though. Standout tracks: A Rush and A Push and the Land Is Ours, Stop Me If You Think You’ve Heard This One Before, and Death at One’s Elbow.
For some reason, I had never listened to this project in full before. I really liked 21st Century Schizoid Man, but I think I was afraid of the other songs on the album being even weirder than that one if that makes sense. Or maybe I was afraid of the other songs not being on par with the opening track. Weird reasoning, I know, but I’m so glad this album was chosen for me and I finally gave it a listen. I’m not really a jazz or a prog rock girl, but DAMN, this album caught and kept my attention. These are some talented musicians and the songwriting is amazing. These lyrics are great too and are just full of imagery and meaning that resonates with me, especially during these crazy times. I love how this project can go from crazy to something magical and ethereal. I’m really glad I gave it a chance. I’m not even a fan of songs that have a long runtime, but I can easily sit through Moonchild even though it’s really weird. The ending is so pretty 😅. Idk, they did something right with this album. One thing is that maybe some songs are a little too long, but like I said, I can still sit through and enjoy them. Standout songs: opening track, Epitaph, and The Court of The Crimson King.
A whatever album. I will not be coming back to it anytime soon. It’s weird in a good way sometimes and there are some interesting things in here. But it gets so boring so fast. For example, I could not wait for Phenomenal Cat to be over. Some of these songs could’ve been cut tbh. Not really my thing, but, even though I find it hard, I can appreciate some parts. I’m surprised this is the same band that wrote You Really Got Me. Standout songs: Village Green, Starstruck, and Wicked Annabella.
This is so the 90s in the best way. It’s pretty chill and the songs have a groove. There are some good messages in here and it’s really fun. For me personally, I don’t care for really “sexy” songs if that makes sense, but I feel like most of them were actually done really tastefully. Not too bad. Standout songs: Creep, Case of the Fake People, and Sumthin’ Wicked This Way Comes.
