1001 Albums Summary

An album that got better as it went along. The synth bass tones in the beginning really didn’t work for me, but the rhythms in the second half of the album redeemed it.

This is probably *the* Bob Marley album to listen to - bangers throughout, opening and ending spectacularly strong with Natural Mystic and One Love/People, Get Ready. Properly listening to the album I can feel the through lines between these grooves and the funk and pop genres. I’m really glad I was able to give this a proper listen. The bassline to So Much Things To Say literally invaded my dreams last night.

This album just stays low energy and strong the whole way through, then Glory Box goes in for the haymaker to close out the round. I’ve heard the influence of this sound on grunge and it’s right at the confluence point of UK’s downtempo electronic beats at that genre. Beth’s voice is totally sending me. I really wish I had known about this band growing up, teenage me would have had this looping on her mp3 player.

I mean, it’s the Red Hot Chili Peppers. I spent waay too long without listening to the full album through. And… holy shit? The only potential criticism I have is that it finishes ab little soft but that’s just the price you pay when you have so many absolute bangers. I’ve heard most of these songs ambient before but sitting down and going through the whole album, really savoring them has been great. Not just a must listen, but more of a “if you live in the anglophone world you *have* heard all these songs.

I had always wondered what the point of a live album was, but this gave me an answer: it's something /kinda like/ attending the concert in person. The multiple pieces of banter and tangents give this album a presence that I haven't found in any other live albums I've heard (not that that is very many). Johnny Cash has a voice like a warm blanket. Maybe it's the Texas girl in me, but I could listen to him talk or sing for hours.

Maybe it was because I was having a strange day, but this sound didn't quite do it for me. It's interesting enough, and I definitely want to give it a re-listen when I'm not stressed out with Holiday affairs.

It sounds like garbage and we need more albums like it.

Dang, it's good, easy listening. I think I could vibe to this almost anytime. A perfect liminal space album.

It starts off fine but I kinda bounced off of this one. There’s something interesting happening with the sound but I honestly don’t care enough to explore it.
