1001 Albums Summary

Funk. Soul. Grooves. Horns! Sax! Highly danceable. Despite being a decent Bowie fan and knowing a few songs from this album, I’m not sure I’d ever listened to the whole thing. What a mistake! This is incredible. Also I do miss true covers being parts of major artists albums. Adele did a few! Sturgill Simpson too. But it’s rare. I was almost surprised when this was THE “across the universe.”

Another one I hadn’t fully listened to before despite knowing a few tracks. Rap isnt my favorite genre but this is … not just rap. It’s innovative and funny and rock and the samples… it’s a blast to listen to. Doing 3 stars only because it’s not my favorite genre and I know there will be a lot more albums to come. Will it be in my regular rotation? No. Am I glad I know it? Yes.

I wish I could do half stars. I love this album and this flavor of Radiohead - with some electronica - is my favorite. But it can’t shake off Kid A. This album is for winter nights and dark drives.

I’ve never heard any of this!! It’s so fun. Slower songs less for me. That seems lazy but I think 60s slow psychedelic pop is not for me.

Really enjoying this listen. I've never heard the studio version of 'no woman no cry' or most of the songs on this album. Was not expecting harmonicas, almost country-like in some songs.

I immediately feel like I'm watching a Nora Ephron movie that takes place in NYC. Or like I'm in a bougie grocery store in NY. Or like I'm in the Olive Garden. This album was really fun to listen to. Some of the lyrics are super wacky. Would give 3.5 stars.

I love a perfect album that is 30 minutes or less. LOVE. If you have an album less than 30 minutes you know it’s going to be jam packed. The reported time on Wikipedia is shorter than the reported time on Apple. I love when an album is so rich and celebrated that there is even a deep history about the recording process. Need to listen more but I loved it

Was not expecting this to be the first album by a woman that I’d encounter on this list. Pleasantly surprised. Also haven’t listened to an Xtina album since her debut. So far this is fun. Her voice one of the best ever and I feel like she doesn’t get enough credit. The singles from this album are so great (ain’t no other man, candy man). For a double pop / r&b album this goes down smoothly. There’s some filler here but I kinda don’t care because it’s all so polished. Giving this one a 3/5. Prob more like 2.75/5 but I’m a bit biased as it’s the first woman I’ve seen here and this was such a pleasant surprise.
