Tea for the Tillerman by Cat Stevens
Dec 16 2025

Thoughts during my listen: Hard Headed Woman is my favourite new song to me Did not know Wild World was a Cat Stevens song, I learn something new every day I feel like Sad Lisa has some sufi/ghazal influence in it's melody and the way he sings the chorus Longer boats sounds so different to all the previous tracks, really grabs your attention Had no idea Father and Son was off this album, thank you once again to guardians of the galaxy for introducing me to this classic, it always brings tears to my eyes Overall: A beautiful album full of longing for simpler times and rejection of the modern world, wrapped up in gentle guitar melodies and Steven's soothing voice to guide you through it.

Stankonia by OutKast
Dec 17 2025

The album started so strong for me, So Frsh and So Clean and Ms Jackson were incredible opening songs, but the middle really lost its way to the point where I almost stopped listening. Then B.O.B. came on and that saved it for me. Loved the Erykah Badu feature. It's an ambitious album, politically aware, sonically interesting, but it just wasn't for me. Still 3.5/5 though, when it works it's fantastic.

Parklife by Blur
Dec 19 2025

Very progressive. Did not realise how old this album actually was. I can hear how it influenced Britpop/rock going forward but also the references it draws on from the past. A great link in the chain from the sounds of the 60-80s (The Clash, The Jam, The Kinks) to the future beyond Blur (Kasabian, Arctic Monkeys, etc.) Very solid catchy singles, who can resist Girls & Boys? This is a Low is a great album closer.

Dookie by Green Day
Dec 21 2025

Reminiscent of what I used to listen in my teenage years but after a while the songs all began to sound the same. Burnout is far too relatable right now.

Blur by Blur
Dec 22 2025

the turn away from their britpop sound makes this sonically interesting, you can hear the American grunge/metal influence, song 2 sounds on the surface like a lost Nirvana track. but lyrically this was way weaker than parklife.

What's Going On by Marvin Gaye
Dec 23 2025

Really enjoyed this, his voice, the melodies, how compact the album was. On the surface level it's easy listening but the lyrics are so moving.
