Generally not to my taste but a really good album. Witty and insightful writing, that still feels relevant today. High lights were: Zealots, Fu-Gee-La, The Score and The Mask. 3/5
Never really gave ska a real go for finding it too tedious, and I did find this tedious towards the end but I can appreciate it still. This album in the first instance is very listenable and makes you want to move. The tracks flow and bounce off each other in a theatrical way. Felt like I was simultaneously on a beach in Jamaica and also in a dusty back alley somewhere in London. Unconventional and triumphant. My highlights were: A Message To You Rudy, Doesn't Make It Alright, Monkey Man, Too Much Too Young and Little Bitch. 4/5
I'm already a huge fan of The Smiths but this is probably my least listened to album. My highlights were: Death of a Disco Dancer, Heard This One Before and Last Night I Dreamt. Great album of course but I think there are better smith albums. 4/5
I've never listened to LCD before, I assumed it was of a completely different genre. In this album I hear an amalgamation of some of my favourite artists, past and present. I hear Talking heads to Pavement, to Geese, Alex G and a ton of others. I can see how this was a foundational album to the hipster/indie 2010s wave that came during shortly after. My Highlights were: Someone Great and New York, I Love You (this made it onto my greatest songs of all time playlist)
Good grief, this was a painfull listen.
The production on this album is really beautiful. So smooth! Vocals are like melted butter, I could listen to this all day. My highlights were: Pusherman, Think.
I wanted to like this but I just didn't. If I wanted to listen to this genre, there are other bands/albums I would reach for first. The whole album just blended into one long, loud, wine. I liked Spike Island but that's about it.
I'm already a fan of Smashing Pumpkins so this was a very easy listen for me. Not my fave by them but a great album none the less. Billy Morgan's voice is Wonderfull and has the right amount of tenderness to create depth. This album sounds like Halloween.
Great album! I was surprised with how indie rock this sounded in places. I just know Mac Demarco loves this album.
Don’t have much to say about this one, it’s one of my all times favourites. I don’t have enough time or space in this box to even try to explain how good this is.
Love this album but prefer The Suburbs
I respect it, but didn't enjoy it.
Cool album cover. Was worried this would all just be pirate punk folk music which is my idea of hell but there were some really nice tunes on this
Having only listened to his earlier, acoustic stuff this was quite refreshing. Although I still prefer his earlier work this is a good album. The vocals I always find a bit tedious after some time, same with the harmonica. My highlights are: Ballad of a Thin Man and Desolation Row
