notable: soul love (actually sounds good vocally and the sax ☝️) weird listening to the blueprint knowing that there are pieces that are derivative that do the sound better. i wish it was better so i didnt have to give it a meh score but i do see the cultural impact behind it.

The Köln Concert by Keith Jarrett
Jan 07 2026

wonderful! i think its an album that i enjoyed more after knowing the background behind it. its crazy that the whole thing improvised, with conditions that would make me jump off a cliff- instead of banging out one hour of beautiful piano jazz

Innervisions by Stevie Wonder
Jan 08 2026

top tracks: don’t you worry ’bout a thing: so good! the instrumental for this with the dialogue calls for a fun time. love the latin vibes here. he’s misstra know-it-all: Im down to be conned. smooth piano and smoother lyrics makes for a groovy track living for the city: best one on the album i think. the story telling is something else, and i think wonder does a great job of subverting the typical country song narrative of the grind by tying in the racialization of black men in america, unable to fully participate in society due to various institutional racial constraints.

Nebraska by Bruce Springsteen
Jan 09 2026

loved all the harmonica in the album. the top track was state trooper for me. its a bit mellow for me, but maybe the right time and place will come again for me to play it in its proper setting…

Live At Leeds by The Who
Jan 12 2026

tried to get into this, but sorry. this was a snoozefest. dont know what mental block i had listening to this but i dont think this deserves a spot on 1001 best albums. if anything, it demonstrates the blindspot that this lists has towards anglosphere musicians, granting them a spot on this list even if they are just okay. in actuality, very mediocre. no significant context, so i am left with: thats it? gun to my head top track: magic bus, because it was the end of the album.

Bridge Over Troubled Water by Simon & Garfunkel
Jan 13 2026

does anyone else get a homoerotic vibe from this? top tracks: el condora pass: light and whispy atmosphere. kinda reminds me of a chinese tune but wikipedia tells me its zarzuela. nonetheless, very nice! so long frank lloyd wright: love the story behind this song! a very mellow and melancholic tune. i feel you, simon. (why would garfunkel want a song about frank lloyd wright, anyways?) baby driver: also a cool country twang with a bit of kick. love the sax part. no notes. i thought the album was great! not 100% solid throughout- but this is my first s&g album. definitely see the vision here.

Paul Simon by Paul Simon
Jan 14 2026

bit of a slower album, but nice cohesive folksy sound. top track: run that body down

A Seat at the Table by Solange
Jan 15 2026

superb album. deserves its spot on the list. i loved how you can really see the work that solange poured into this and how interwoven the story she is trying to communicate with her features and collaborators. the interludes (fav was the tina interlude) fit in well with the piece and it really explores the inner workings of the album, the message, and solange herself. top tracks: crane in the sky- love that bassline. funky song that is very melodic. where do we go : these harmonies….. borderline: love the jazzy piano!! fubu: slow, very smooth

Dookie by Green Day
