1001 Albums Summary

Very beautiful to listen to. I had no idea Kanye West sampled ‘21st century schizoid man’ for his song ‘power’. Some songs did feel a bit too long, because of the fact that there isn’t much versatility in jazzy instrumentals nearing the end of certain songs. Other than that, so damn good!!

Really enjoyed listening to this. So far I’ve seen a lot of people say they don’t like this album or rock genre in general. I’m gonna have to disagree with them there. This rock subdivision has always been one of my favourites. The very 80’s sound has always drawn me in with all of its synthesisers and guitar solos. Now of course you can’t talk about this album without mentioning ‘Jump’, and although it probably is one of my favourites on the album, ‘Top Jimmy’ definitely takes the cake for me.

This album showcases a beautiful story. It starts out sounding very light and hopeful, but the longer it goes on, the darker each song gets. In my eyes we start out in a normal city. That normal city slowly grows more and more corrupted, until… a hero shows up. The hero tries his best to help the townspeople and save their city from total corruption, but fails. After this we reach a very desperate point in the album. That is, until another hero shows up. This time, he saves the town and things slowly return to normal. This is when the music start to get more dainty and hopeful again. We end with a very joyous song, that shows all is well that ends well. Sufjan Steven is a storyteller who does not get remotely enough recognition outside of his work for the CMBYN soundtrack.

love me a good folk-sounding album

Not really my cup of tea. I more so prefer Bowie’s energetic, space-sounding music. The instrument only songs were especially dreadful to me. I’m sorry, but I cannot listen to 5 minutes of the same experimental jazz sequence. Bowie has all of my respect, but this was not good.

there are maybe 2 or 3 songs on here that I’d actually listen to. I cannot stand Biggie for the very things he raps about. Be constantly objectifies women, only raps about shooting himself or other and adds unnecessary sex to his songs. Biggie is a predator who had sex with an underage Lil Kim’, cheated on his wife and was abusive. I cannot listen to a known predator rap about young girls being ho’s.
