Ok first album review, I’m excited to see how much I grow as this project goes along.
Licensed to Ill definitely hasn’t aged the greatest since its’ initial 1986 release, but I think that’s mostly due to satire just not landing. I had a hell of a goofy fun time listening to this in my living room and getting randomly jump scared by some lyrics, but also realizing I knew so much more of this album than I originally thought. For a debut album, it has so much energy and life that even with the crass and juvenile humor it is such a fun and easy listen.
Not really sure how I feel about this one, since it isn’t really my genre, but I never really felt like there was anything here I’d ever come back to and listen to. Every song just feels like relaxing by the lake which is a good feeling, but I also can’t remember any specific time I’ve sat by the lake just the fact that I was sitting by the lake. I don’t think I’m going to remember any song from this album just the vibe of it, and while the vibe is nice for a bit I’d still rather be doing other things than sit here by lake for a while.
One of those albums where I’ve heard all the songs but never listened to the complete album front to back, which is probably for the best as all the songs start to blend together. When this one showed up on the randomizer I got really excited, but then I started spacing out quite a bit, especially towards the back half as it felt like it was all just kind of meshing together. Some great songs here, but I’ll just listen to those songs
Definitely threw a curveball for me for my 4th album of this project, but I like weird experimental shit this was kind of a vibe. 100 minutes might’ve been a bit of a stretch and there’s nothing specific I’m going to remember but it was still pretty fun to listen to.
Probably in the minority that doesn’t really care about Led Zeppelin, they’re influential and their music is technically pretty good, but I just never really clicked with much of what they’ve done. This is kinda no exception, there’s a few good songs here but nothing I can really say I’ll actively seek out again.
It took a little bit for me to get on this album’s wavelength, but by the end I was vibing pretty hard, and kinda wanted it to keep going. Interested to hear more from them as this is my first album from the Pixies, and I’ve probably heard more from them but just don’t remember. Will probably come back to some songs here at some point this was nice.
The first real stinker of this project, I’m already exhausted which definitely didn’t work in my favor for this album either. It feels so monotonous and boring. Yes, there’s some cool guitar stuff and Layla is an okay song, but holy fuck was 1:17 a slog to get through. I’ve sat through plenty of 4 hour movies that felt shorter than this. Not a fan.
The 80s seem to consistently be my least favorite decade when it comes to more mainstream art, and this is no exception in the slightest. Tina Turner has a great voice and I could listen to her sing all day, but there’s so much grating 80s pop background that I started to get a headache.
I’ve never really listened to Bob Dylan all that much so I was excited to see this pop up, and I enjoyed it quite a bit. The first time I’ve added a song to my future rotation since my first album, which is good because I was getting scared I didn’t actually like music for a bit.
I was a little hesitant at first after hearing it was a live album, as the few I’ve heard never did it for me, but hearing the audience worked quite well for this one, I felt like I was there with everyone listening. The audience almost feels like an instrument itself. Definitely see myself listening to this again when I’m having a bad day.
I’m exhausted after a super long shift so it’s nice that this is so short, and the music is pretty good, but I can’t think any deeper than that right now. Take the 4 and move on
