Lynne is the spiritual successor to Brian Wilson as the maestro of progressive pop. Lush arrangements with a solid rock backbeat. Some 70s cliches like vocoder effects but overall solid.

Solid 90s adjacent hip hop- East Coast jazz with West Coast harmonies. Solid 1-2 with Quality Control

My friends and I used have a saying: “Let’s get Exile f*ed up tonight.” This album is a state of being- the beautiful diamond in an exhaustive desert of excess. A dirty, gritty statement and a masterpiece.

A thousand ships album. Kurt was mainlining Doolittle along with china white. Quality slightly varies to keep it from a consistent whole but when it fires, it’s furious.

No wave with pop sensibilities. Starting point for anyone interested in SY. Kim also was fundamental to riot grrl starting here.

Randy Newman’s voice brings me to anger. I don’t get it…at all.

Definitely their best album although listening to Green Day just makes me want to listen to the bands they copy. Totally understand why this would be a 5/5 for a younger listener.

On par with early 2000s garage rock revival but does add a bit more soul

Automatic 5/5. The most genius of the genius period. There’s not much universal truth but this is one.
