I have a strange relationship with Soundgarden. They have some decent songs, but I think on the whole they sound like a weird amalgamation of Foo Fighters and Shinedown (probably because they influenced these bands). Sadly it’s just a sound I can’t really get on board with.
I also feel like this goes on far too long. It’s an hour 10 of the exact same sound over and over again with very little variation, by the end I was willing it to finish.
Born in the USA is one hell of a way to open a record.
I also think it encapsulates the theme of the record beautifully too. It’s an up beat pop song that invokes images of the US’ ‘hayday’ of nascar, good old boys and muscle cars. When in reality it’s a scathing critique of the US particularly its treatment of Vietnam vets.
This theme continues through the record, fun poppy hits like Darlington County are cut with Springsteens iconic voice revealing things aren’t as good as they seem.
Absolute great American road trip of an album. Cool sliding guitar notes accompany Neil’s whining story telling, it reminds me of the classic image of a hobo you met stowing away on a cargo train telling the story of his travels. Old Man is an all timer too.
This album slaps, it’s better than Thriller, there i said it!
One word to describe this album is SMOOTH.
I feel like I’m being sonically wooed by the man himself.
It’s a decent hip hop album with some very high highs. But it’s not my favourite Roots album.
I’m always bowled over by The Beatles influence on the sound of the 60s, their finger prints are all over this.
This album sounds like taking a psychedelic trip through a whimsical alien English country village. I loved it.
Definitely that 00s indie sound that I’ve never really got along with that well.
The albums decent but I struggle to give it more than 3 stars.
This albums alright, I think Neil Youngs sound can sometimes drone on and become background noise.
The On The Beach song really reminded me of the Seagull song Yoda sings on the Star Wars bad lip reading video, this made me laugh.
Bowie can do little wrong in my eyes. However, I’ve often found the first half of this album to be a little goofy. It’s filled with pop songs covering slightly childish themes and doesn’t quite land for me. The second half is a different story, weird industrial synths conjure up a dark post apocalyptic city scape, its brilliant!
Nice dream pop album, easy to listen to sound despite the fact I didn’t understand a word that was said the entire record.
This is the kind of thing I was excited for this site to throw up. I don’t think I’ve ever listened to a garage record in full, despite it being a huge part of British music culture.
This album has some hard hitting tunes, feels like I jumped back in time to the 90s. Garage does fall into the trap that a lot of dance music suffers from which is very repetitive building blocks for each track.
