1. 15 Steps - This is a song that ultimately builds up. Not a huge fan of the beginning, but it truly came together, towards the end. Not the best tone-setter.... I dare say, this song is quasi-psychedelic. 6.5/10
2. Bodysnatchers - From the first listen, this song enamored me. Reminds me of Hendrix and heavier rock in general. This is a song that pulls me into another world. 7.68
3. Nude - Again, beautiful song, but I can't connect with it. 7.5/10
4. Weird Fishes - Hm. I want to give it a 10, but it'd be a weak 10. Beautiful song. This is one of the albums defining songs. I am definitely going to revisit it. 9.1/10
5. All I Need - This is a beautiful and tender song reflecting a beautifully tender album. I relate to this song heavily. Stellar 9.5/10
6. Faust Arp - I mean it's alright... Still a good song. I loved the string section. 7.8/10
7. Reckoner - Happy and somber. Loved the percussion throughout. Had a but of a 60s feel to it. I really liked that vocal break so well. 9/10
8. House of Cards - Yearning anthem. I really liked it. The lyrics are relatable and true for the most part. 9/10
9. Jigsaw Falling Into Place - 10/10
10. Videotape - Heartfelt. 9.5/10. That dra dra dum percussion made me think of someone's last moments. Nice touch considering the song's subject matter.
Overall: 8.3. This was my second listen. I am definitely going to listen to this album again. More of an acquired taste - but an amazing experience overall
1. Wesley's Theory - An amazing song. I loved the opening and production. Had an amazing 1980s RnB feel to it. Reminded me of baby be mine by Michael Jackson.
2. For Free - 9/10
3. King Kunga- 9.7/10
4. Institutionalized 9.7/10
5. These Walls 8.7/10
6. U - 8.4
7. Alright - 10/10
8. For Sale - 8.6/10
9. Momma - 9.6/10
10. Hood Politics- 8.6/10
11. How Much A Dollar Cost - 9.7/10
12. Complexion- 9.6/10
13. The Blacker The Berry - 10/10
14. You Ain't Gotta Lie - 8/10
15. I - 10/10
16. Mortal Man - 10/10
9.3 It will grow on me - So I'll give it a 5. Urban Pet Sounds
1. Holidays In The Sun - Very valid opening track. Sounds stereotypical punk - it does so very charmingly. Energetic and angry. 8.7/10
2. Liar - Follows the established format of the previous track... Energetic and sloppy. Very similar to the last track, but different to the point of distinction - 8.2/10
3. No Feelings - Altough this album feels like a bunch of nothings thrown into something - this song has an incredibly self aware quality: I view it as a lament of sorts. There have been times where I have been immature and selfish and it has cost me relationships. Am I angry at myself? Yeah? Do I aim to change? Yes. Will the singer change? No. This song is an alarming wake up call. 8.8/10
4. God Save The Queen - Cynical, Brash, Resentful. Wonderful. An addicting tag as well. 8.9/10
5. Problems - Maybe I'm getting sick of the sound or something... I don't know. This song felt a bit repetitive. Although, this was good, it wasn't much of a wower as the past few tracks were. 7.9/10
6. 17 - I legitimately forgot how this song sounded and confused it with another one. It may have the same driving force as the others, but now the album is becoming repetitive. 7.3/10
6. Anarchy In The UK - N/A
7. Submission- 7.2/10
I couldn't finish this. It may be influential- but this is so excruciating. 4/10. Not needed.
Uh-Oh, Love Comes to Town - I love this as an opening track. An addicting guitar lick and an overall goofy mindlessness that is charming and every sense of the word. 10/10
New Feelings - This song is still good, but not quite as good as the other one. It has the same general feeling as the previous track, but succesfully stands on it own, unlike the Sex Pistols... Not quite as striking as the previous track - 8.4/10
Tentative Decisions - This song follows the status quo, but it differentiates itself brilliantly. The song's harmonies, piano, and percussion bring it all together into a beautiful piece - 9.3/10
Happy Day - This was a very relaxing piece. It may not be as memorable as the previous tracks, but it's a very pleasant song. 8.35/10
Who Is It? - This track has a funky guitar riff and is entertaining throughout. This song stands out for its "in your face energy" and the fun feeling present throughout. - 8.7/10
No Compassion - A dreamy and eerie feel at times. I love the bassline. Very "chill". 8.54/10
The Book I Read - I never felt bored throughout this song. A wonderful chord progression. An amazing use of the organ. A little hesitant on this, but I am giving this song a 10/10
Don't Worry About The Government - This song is still charming, but it doesn't have the same sense of excitement present in the previous tracks. Out of all the tracks I have listened to so far, this might be the only song I'd skip - 7.97/10
First Week/Last Week... Carefree - Not the biggest fan of this song, but I love the strumming pattern, and I do like the sax "solo". - 8.1/10
Psycho Killer - 10/10.... Need I say more?
Pulled Up - Feels very similar to the opening track, but in a great and conclusive way. Considering this comes after Psycho Killer, it's this album's rainbow after the flood, so to speak. Reminds of Springsteen for some reason. Only thing is the screaming got to me. If it wasn't for that, it'd be a 10. - 9/10
Overall" 8.9/10 - Very calming and exciting album. Has a youthful, energetic, yet serene feel.
1. Plastico - Very nice opening track. Reminds me of the music I heard growing up. Has a traditional and 70s feel. The beginning doesn't match the rest of the song, but it still works well together - 10/10
2. Buscando Guayaba - A different tempo and style, but it is still traditional Latin music. Considering the fact that I am Mexican-American, I may be biased, but Latin music as a whole is truly, truly beautiful. Do I understand the words? No... I'm a no sabo, but do I love it? YES. 9.7/10
3. Pedro Navaja - I never realized how much I was going to like salsa. Same notes as the other tracks. Beautiful - I may not like it as much as the previous 2 tracks, but it is still a beautiful song nonetheless. 9.45/10
4. Maria Lionza - Like all the other tracks, I love it. The backing vocals/harmonies, the horn section, and percussion bring it all together. 9.5/10
5. Ojos - The instrumental is more upbeat than the last song. A much happier sound overall. 9.68/10
6. Dime - N/A - Recommend skipping - 0/10 - lyrical reasons
7. Siembra - Very nice closing track. Upbeat. Not too much to add. 8.7/10
Overall: 8.1/10 - Great songs on a great album. Only one song is not up to par with the rest.
1. Good Times Roll - This is not a bad song by any means. This track is boring- it's safe, it's not risk taking. 7.65/10
2. My Best Friend's Girl - Miles better than the first track. The enchanting backing vocals carry the track. 8.1/10
3. Just What I Needed - 10/10
4. I'm In Touch With Your World - This song is a chore to listen to. It has its moments, but they're few and far between. 5.4/10
5. Don't Cha Stop - track is youthful and energetic, however, it suffers from the same flaw as most of the tracks on this album: it's boring. Encapsulating at times, but it fails to follow through on its hooks. It feels as though it's playing chicken with my ears. 6.85/10
6. You're All I've Got Tonight- Maybe my expectations were lowered, but I really liked this song. Steady energy, good guitars and a great use of keys. 7.64/10
7. Bye Bye Love - This is a boring album, full of mostly boring songs. The novelty of this track wears off decently quick. Just as I think the album is picking up, I get bored again. 6.8/10
8. Moving In Stereo - This is a song I can confidently say stands on it's own. Eerie and otherworldly. I believe it should have been the opening track. Not as good as some of the other songs - but it's better than the lesser tracks. 7.8/10
9. All Mixed Up - Entertaining and comforting. I can confidently say this is the second best song of the album. Addicting and mesmerizing. 8.85/10
-- I could have died without listening to this album. It was incredibly mediocre, however it does have some redeeming qualities. There are a few stand out tracks scattered throughout out, but if you have to listen to one song from this album, it'd be Just What I Needed. The Cars' self titled album is definitely not the worst debut album I have heard, but it isn't the best either. This album showcases the band's potential, but it also shows their flaws. Overall 7.6/10 showcases the band's potential, but also shows how boring they can be.
1. I Looked Away - I believe this song does not work as an opening track. It's memorable and it feels like a filler song they would stick somewhere in the first side of the record. This is not a bad song - by any means. Its just kind of "eh" - 7.36/10
2. Bell Bottom Blues - Altough the song beginning of the song sounded uninspired, the track built up into something beautiful. It recognized it's hook and ran with it. Encapsulating harmonies and a pretty decent use of the organ. - 7.85/19
3. Keep on Growing - This should have been the opening track. This track is highly energetic and very solid overall, but it overstayed it's welcome. It should have been 2.5 to 3 minutes and not the full 6. 8.35/10
4. Nobody Knows You When You're Down And Out - These lyrics ring incredibly true. A very nice blues cover. Liked the chord progression, but it isn't really my style. 8.4/10
5. I am Yours - A much needed change of pace. Not much to really note... Just like most of this album it's kind of alright, but unlike the previous tracks, it's a lot more pleasant. 8.6/10
6. Anyday- Best song on this album, so far. Intoxicatingly positive. Very upbeat and hopeful. 8.9/10
7. Key To The Highway - Very solid track. Not a really big blues fan, but this was a great song overall. It did not overstay its welcome like any of the other songs either - but its just not my taste - 8.3/10
8. Tell The Truth - It really feels as though the album is picking up now. This song has an amazing groove and energy. The beginning is the only thing dragging it down to a 9, imo. A great song. 8.9/10
9. Why Does Love Got To Be So Sad - An amazing bass line, spectacular guitar solos, and stunning drums. I want to give this song a 10, but something is just holding me back. 9.75/10
10. Have You Ever Loved a Woman - Claptons basically admitting he's in love with Pattie Boyd. Solid song. No notes. 9.25/10
11. Little Wing - The album's first 10. The crying guitars and the pain in the vocals make you feel the singer's misery. Very angelic instrumental. 10/10
12. It's Too Late - I grew up with the Buddy Holly version of this song and I have to say, this version adds a layer of realness that wasn't present in Holly's. Gives it a nice edge. 9.7/10.
13. Layla - 9.8/10 - Iconic song. Not much to say.
14. Thorn Tree In The Garden - Beautiful and sincere. An amazing closing track. Stripped of everything from earlier in the album. Soothing as well. Only thing holding it back is that weird falsetto. 9.99/10.
Overall: 8.9 - Highs were high. Lows were mediocre. I dont think I'd recommend this one or if I would listen to it again. I can see why someone would like it.
