Machine Head by Deep Purple
Mar 02 2026

Highway Star is all-time, but couldn’t see myself turning to this over any of the goats early 70s British blues hard rock era. Hard to take some of these songs seriously when Zeppelin I ,II, III, & IV had already released before this.

Aqualung by Jethro Tull
Mar 05 2026

Was cool-- 1st time listen and really had only thought of Jethro Tull as "the flute band" among their British hard rock contemporaries, but I appreciated the dynamics beyond just the full throttle stuff, specially "Wind-Up". Also listened to the special edition of the album with the Ian Anderson interview at the end, which was great.

Surf's Up by The Beach Boys
Mar 07 2026

Would’ve a fine example of this era if it was not an album from “The Beach Boys”. Made me think the only reasons this is on this list is the fire album cover and to make you further appreciate the impact of Brian Wilson. Looking forward to being assigned better, more sonically rich albums from their catalogue

Countdown To Ecstasy by Steely Dan
Mar 08 2026

Very good but I think my generation’s love of Steely Dan has drained my appreciation of the nuance a bit and has instead left me with the overbearing vibe, which is not always for me. That said, recording is pristine per usual. Listened on my Sennheisers

21 by Adele
Mar 10 2026

I lived through the hype of this album as a middle schooler, but in revisiting, I can't help but feel like the production is pretty dated. Overemphasis on the hooks (it worked, all these songs were massive hits), leading to me preferring the songwriting on 19 and 25. B-side clears imo Best Track: Someone Like You.
