-Invader feels very much like power metal at the start, though speed metal might be the better comparison.
-Prisoner really reminds me of another song and I don't think I'll find it for a long time. Frustrate.
-22 Acacia Avenue started off solid then swept me off my feet. Contender for best guitar solo in the album. Will confirm. Over 6 minutes long as well, which I like.
-- Yeah, this has my favourite solo in the album. Not by much, of course.
-Number of the Beast. Iconic. Masterful. I must inform the law.
-Run to the Hills may have the catchiest chorus. I'm partial to soaring vocals like this.
- Hallowed Be Thy Name is an indicator, I think. I remember empire of the clouds and this does make me think of that whole album, but particularly that song.
Excellente alboom. Magnfico.
- Spellbound: Off to a good start. I quite like this. Is this gothic? 1981 might predate the gothic subculture. This might be part of the grassroots, or an early entry into it. I'll need to get the timeline right first. In any case, A+ start.
Looking at what the band members look like, I'm pretty sure this is gothic so it should be interesting to look into.
- Into The Light: Alright, now this I'm really into.
- Arabian Knights: Catchy.
I'm noticing the vocals feel kind of low volume. The whole album feels audially washed out, I think. I dunno. Maybe it's just the age of the album but this is really contributing to the vibe.
- Sin In My Heart grasped my attention again. I quite like the drums in this one. Yes, this is very nice.
- Head Cut: this one demands attention. Can't listen to this in the background. Cool guitars. Drums continue to hit. Definitely doing something interesting, but the vocals and lyrics aren't really doing it for me.
- Voodoo Dolly: Oh yeah. I like this.
- The Spellbound 12" mix is hitting as well. Might be the best on the album. It might be the exact same as the first song in the album. Maybe it just hit harder the second time, idk. I'll figure that out later.
Alright, the album is good, of hat there's no doubt. But gothic rock has never really gotten my gears turning. It does light up my vampire cortex so that's nice. The vibe is definitely there, but the enjoyment is intermittent.
Sin In My Heart was a highlight.
Off to a grand start.
Good golly miss molly is top notch.
Holy heck, is that a Flushed Away reference?
Pretty good. Is this blues? Methinks it's blues.
Not bad. A bit of Africa mythologising, but it's a good sound.
Noice. Songs were longer than I expected. I went in thinking it would be a short listen based on the short track list, but they're all pretty long. I like it very much.
It's Talking Heads. What's not to love?
18 tracks makes this a long boy. I like the vibe, but it's not what gets me going, especially not in this particular chapter of my life. So yeah.
A wee bit religious. I do quite enjoy the sound, but the lyrics aren't quite my speed.
I need to return to this one on another day. I could really like this if I listen to it when the time is right.
A lecture? Interesting. Ravi Shankar sounds familiar as well, so I may have listened to some of his music before or simply heard of him. Either way, I should definitely check out his other stuff.
