1001 Albums Summary

A lot of classic hits on this one, and it's kind of nice to listen to them all at once. A totally pleasant listening experience, timeless and charming.

I think Anthony Kiedis should probably be killed. Not just because he's a serial pederast, but also because of his shitty "skibbity bibbity" funky white boy proto-drake sing-rapping. You put together such a deadly musical unit and then you ruin it with this bozo junkie's prettyboy babble poetry. Around The World is basically a crime.

Johnny Marr is an interesting guitar player but there's not very much to this record. Morrissey's cheap cringing lyrical misanthropy is so dated, it's hard to imagine a time when people were really affected by it. Most of these songs sound the same.

There are so many parts of this record that are astounding. Nas being 19 when he recorded NY State of Mind in one take is obviously legendary, but so many of these cuts are truly clear eyed social realist poetry. So many rappers are bullshitting about their art reflecting their lives, but Nas is not, because there is so little that he describes that rises above Crab Bucket shit, everyone dragging everyone down, everything being a competition for biggest crook, least trustworthy killer. A masterwork from a guy who went on to live entirely in the shadow of his early work, the Black Alex Chilton.

There are some obvious Fuzz Classics on this record, but there's also a lot of dead air. The singles from this record are Rock Radio Mainstays, great songs to drive a shitty car around to, but the album cuts are tedious, clear victims of the need to release a full LP as a commodity rather than strong ideas for songs. People were buying hell of records back then. not no more. I had to listen to this record on Youtube because Spotify keeps losing the rights to classic records. Can't even fucking listen to Aja.

Really not a very good record

I mean, a lifetime personal favourite, a canonical heater, an album i grew up with in constant rotation in my home. This is it. This is a rock record made by cool normal guys with something to say. It's the thing!!!!

After the opening track, the whole thing is just mediocre. none of the bombast of Elton John, none of the technical supremacy of Steely Dan, too much talk for it to be as fun as Disco. Back in the "Records for Old People" pile.

Pleasant to listen to, but not really for me and all the songs are basically the same song.

Bus Driver is an all time blues ripper, same with I Can't Be Satisfied. Unfortunately not much stands out on this for me, though Muddy Waters charisma and his excellent band are remarkable.

Not much here for me. Probably one of my least favourite styles of hip hop.
