1001 Albums Summary

Definitely sounds like the beginning of 80's production, which isn't a bad thing in any way at all. I think it was the staleness of the 80's which lead to it being an "inferior" decade of music. Anyway, it wasn't really my thing. I liked the bassy production and instrumentals. The vocals weren't really doing it for me. It also felt a little bit repetitive at times with the loops. Still an insanely good listen, but maybe a tad overrated. Groovy and the rhythms were addictive. Percussion was also great. Favorite Song: The Great Curve or Crosseyed and Painless (Can't decide!)

Really nice fusion of some blues, soul, and folk. I liked the vocals and lyrics, and the organ and keys were great. Never heard of this band before, and I think they'll be in my rotation now. Favorite song: Can't even choose, every song is great.

Maybe I need to listen to more pop, but to me it sounds like Vespertine by Bjork but without the gorgeous production. Or in other words, strange vocals with very 80’s like instrumentation and synths. Not my thing, but still respectable. Running Up That Hill brings me back to summer 2022 and I liked the bass tone on Big Sky. Favorite Songs: Running up that hill, The Morning Fog.

I hate John Lennon. My favorite part is the part where he fucking died. maybe crippled inside is alright. I find imagine just annoying. It feels like hes playing the whole “world peace protest song” archetype as bait. Jealous guy would be good if it was made by anyone except Lennon. “I didn’t mean to hurt you” says the guy that cheated on his wife and abandoned his son for the chuzz. Or maybe the songs about Brian Epstein… No, I do not care to separate the art from the artist as it would not exist without the artist. Instead I think you have to look at the art and artist through a view of when the art was released. Kanye wasn’t always a Nazi, and now he is and now his music is bad. “I don’t wanna cheat on my wife mama” or something like that- you know maybe the one good thing Lennon did was the anti-war stuff. The song is actually decent, unfortunately. His singing annoying though and it’s carried by the vocal effects and instrumentation. I like the brass. Gimme some truth is also a good protest song, I think it’s supposed to reflect the decline in government trust during that time. The second half of the album is him and Ono making out in the studio, which makes me want to stop and leave, just like the other people in the studio probably also felt. Ok “How do you sleep” WOULD be insanely good if it wasn’t by John Lennon and about Paul McCartney. I think that attack on him is petty, undeserved, and honestly lame as shit.

This album made me cry. The instrumentation, vocals, and mix of strings and rock elements are absolutely breathtaking. Best listened to with headphones and in a melancholic mood. Favorite song: Olsen Olsen

Very weird psychedelic folk album. I liked all the different sounds and instruments, but it’s not really for me.

Gritty and fun alt-rock album. Loved every (almost) every second of it- I found it a little too noisy at some points. Loved the vocals on Tunic and similar songs. Will add into my rotation. Favorite Song: Tunic (Song for Karen)
