1001 Albums Summary

The hits are hits for a reason. This album is one of those cases of "we can't make it anymore, we don't know how." Like I don't know if it's something to do with the guitars or the vocals or the old 80s synths or the way everything layers up on every song. 40 seconds into Broken you feel like 2 different songs are playing in each ear. Not every song is super memorable and most of the songs are 5/6 minutes so it's not perfect the full way through but there's real magic in there.

Tried really hard to see anything in it but everything blended together into one homogenous drone and for the longer songs I was begging them to either do something or just end. The music and the vocals are competing to see which one can be more nothing. Lovesong makes a little playful attempt at being listenable but it can't drag out the one good idea for a whole 3 minute song. You would think the title song would at least be good but when they should be belting out the crescendo of the song the singer just sounds bored and whiny. Pray for the WW2 veterans who were being psychologically tortured by watching their daughters gag over this guy's shitty joker cosplay and had to endure his music on top of it. (He's fine as hell in Lovecats though I love that song)

Incredibly powerful voice. The songs are fairly repetitive especially with the lyrics which is fine for the length of the songs but drags out a bit over the album. To it's credit I still have all the words in my head the next day. You can see why this was like the medieval peasants eating spicy doritos for people in the 1950s.

Love 90s hip hop and this album has plenty of good songs with great production but the lyrics are too often cheetos fritos doritos first word that comes to his head type rhymes. There's a lot of songs that I enjoy and would listen to again but I wouldn't listen to the album again so it has to be a 2.

Back to back to back 5 star songs with no skips. The feeling of walking through town with your boys absolutely schwasted condensed into an album.

There was nothing wrong with it but it didn't make me feel anything. None of the songs left an impression besides Gods of War which itself isn't even a great song. Musical equivalent of breakfast tv

This album was super intriguing to me. I didn't think much of it until halfway through the first listen when I realised there was a lot more going on. Went for a second listen right after the first. It grips me. I don't know if it's really cohesive as an album but maybe having all those different sounds was the point. Some of those sounds were a miss, Stork & Owl is so 2008 it hurts, but after those two listens I could name every song. I feel like I'm having trouble understanding why I like this so much but I have to go with my heart.

I think it's funny that in a 45 minute album with 4 songs my favourite is the one that lasts 5 minutes and the only one that starts to drag is the 9 minute one.

Loved every song. Gives me memories of childhood camping trips and the long drive back home listening to my mum's CDs
