Band On The Run by Paul McCartney and Wings

A classic album I'm already familiar with. Great to relisten to.

A classic album I'm already familiar with. Great to relisten to.

I want to like REM more than I actually like REM. There are some great songs on here, but I've always thought their singles are better than their albums.

I was familiar with the big songs off this album. It's a little too samey for one sitting but is also such a good vibe that I want to put it on and drive through back roads.

Surrealistic Pillow by Jefferson Airplane
Apr 28 2026

My favorite so far. I knew the singles but had never heard most of this album. Really great stuff.

Licensed To Ill by Beastie Boys

This is the first one that I didn't love. I feel the same way about a lot of 80s hip hop as I do about 50s rock: I appreciate this more as a historical artifact than an album I'd seek out. I like the rawness and looseness of the production, but the flow is too samey for me. The songs aren't there for me, but I get it.

One World by John Martyn
Apr 30 2026

This is the first album that I had 0 context for. I was completely unaware of this record. I really enjoyed the instrumental textures and overall vibe of the record. I don't feel as strongly about the songwriting. I wouldn't think of these as "songs" in the traditional sense, but more "emotional outpourings". I'm very glad to have discovered it. I'll definitely be giving it more listens in the future.

I was always a Beatles guy, but I get this album. Good solos, good songs, definitely a product of its time, but a high quality product of its time.

Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers

Tom Petty has always seemed like a timeless artist to me. Overall a good to great album. American Girl feels like a song that has always been and kicks this album up a level.
