I admire Joni's songwriting and the ability to put forth her emotions via rhyming words and guitar strings. However, some of the higher pitched vocals were distracting from the true art. I would have enjoyed more if she sang in a lower octave.
There were three standout songs for me total and the rest went by without generating much of a feeling from me. So, I choose A Case of You as my favorite from the album.
Honorable mention in her writing to rhyme figure skater with coffee percolater! Gave me a laugh.
Pre listening thoughts: 1968 was the year my mom was born so Ill keep that in mind while listening. Ill admit...im not a big Beatles fan but Im hoping this album surprises me. Oh, and it has 30 tracks wtf!!
Post listening thoughts: The album felt like an adventure...a chaotic type of adventure. There was certainly lots of variety in sound but perhaps too much? I didnt find there to be a good flow nor any cohesiveness with the album. There were certainly some good songs that stood their ground individually. I just did not see the vision of throwing all of them together in the track list.
Fav song: torn between Dear Prudence & I Will
It would be difficult to find someone who couldnt find something to love about this album. For me, I love the strength in her vocals despite the fraility of her words and being. Her vocal power definitely help cover up the pain from her experiences. In a cheesy way, this album makes me feel like a badass who can keep tackling things as they come.
Favorite- Love Is A Losing Game
I enjoyed this album more than I thought I would. Was easy to listen to and ended up saving different songs to my library.
Favorite: Clover Over Dover
I wasnt a fan :( No favorite song
I was pleasantly surprised by this album. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. It gave me a warm nostalgic feeling. Like a Sunday morning in an old 80s kitchen sitting at the table clipping coupons for TV dinners.
Favorite- Its Too Late
Perhaps a little too underground for my liking. Ive never heard of this album though. Does this make me a fake hip hop fan?!
Favorite song: Lovesick
Confession. Im not a Mick Jagger fan. His voice just doesn't sit well with me.
For this album Id say overall it felt a tad messy?
Favorite song: Love In Vain
Ive never heard of this band. But I understand why. The style isnt really appealing to me. Similar to what I said yesterday about The Stones this sound is a little too chaotic for my enjoyment. It felt a bit overwhelming for me.
My favorite song was Music When The Lights Go Out
My daughter's really like The Smiths so this album made me think of them. I like listening to his voice. Its not necessarily comforting but it makes me feel at ease. However the production of this album doesn't feel intentional. Its slightly messy.
Favorite song: I Am Hated For Loving. The song alone is a 4.5 to me.
This album took me by surprise. It was not what I was expecting as it sounds different than the Chicago that I am familiar with.
The tracks were heavy on the instrumentals. They were fun for a little bit but the songs themselves were lengthy. Perhaps too long. It made it difficult to listen without finding the need to skip to the next song after 4 minutes.
Fav song - Beginnings or Poem 58.
This was a fun listen! I enjoyed the playfulness and the track titles. Never heard of Frank before but he seems like an alright dude.
Favorite song - Son of Mr Green Genes
I enjoyed this album! I can't put my finger on exactly why. Maybe it was the vocals? Or perhaps just the familiarity of it. It for sure sounds like an early 2000s album and I love that.
Favorite- Ego Tripping At The Gates of Hell
This was nice & easy to listen to while I worked. Nothing special to me though. Just feels like something I can listen to on any other soft jazz album.
Favorite: Kathy's Waltz
A little too country for my liking but I didnt mind it. Shout out to George for only making this album 28 minutes long...because I dont think I would have lasted 30.
Favorite: Who Will I Be Loving Now
I loved this album. I listened to it several times.
Favorite: wish you were here
I love a good melodramatic moment.
Favorite- I Won't Share You
This was nice background music if you dont want to have a serious thought in your mind.
Don't have a favorite song because they all sounded the same.
