Americana rock and roll really isn't for me, and most of these tracks I've heard way too much on classic rock radio. However, there are some tracks on here that I've never heard before and aren't too bad. Downbound Train is probably the most tolerable one, but man does he love to repeat himself.
The type of album that on paper, sounds really cool. However in execution as a new Zappa listener it's a bit of a slog. Most tracks are near 10 minutes and are pretty jam band-y. Some incredible musicianship obviously, but I feel like you need to be in a certain mood for this kind of album. Either that, or on like a billion drugs.
Not their best. Feels like the beatles before they really found their identity. probably groundbreaking for its time, but really nothing for me to come back to on here. Songwriting is solid, just hasn't aged incredibly well for a first listen.
Baba O'Riley has to be one of the best opening tracks on any album. Unfortunately it's let down immediately by Bargain, probably the most forgetable song by the who. Still, the album is redeemed by other bangers like the song is over, getting in tune and won't get fooled again. Not bad!
You can see where modern hiphop is influenced by albums like this. It was a great listen, but suffers from its length I think. Too many tracks, should have been around 8-10. A lot of the beats start sounding too similar towards the end. Still though, the hits make this a classic.
Solid album. Some really interesting changeups in the track list and obvious bangers like black magic woman. Did not expect to vibe with El Nicoya as much as I did.
A masterpiece. Actually insane this was released in 1969. Not a bad track in the list in my opinion. Each member clearly brings their own talents to the forefront in different moments, George Harrison's ballad 'Something' being my favourite and Ringo's drumming on 'The End' is mega.
Pretty fun album. Never heard of this guy, but once you listen you realise you've heard a few songs heaps of times. Pretty solid collection here, just a few tunes that sound a little same-y.
Pretty cool, sounds like they had fun making it. Didn't expect to find the 'That 70's show' theme in there. Not bad!
Some great guitar tones on here for 1968. Decent vairety of themes and song-types as well. Holds up better than expected for its age.
Technically proficient is one thing, but as a listening experience it's just too much for someone with no prior knowledge of the players or their backgrounds.
Fun but a bit bland when you get into it. First track sounds like a straight rip of a blur tune and the rest of the album has a bit of a fake brit-pop sheen that just feels like a plastic wrap on a pretty average CD.
Just really not for me, kind of doesn't sound like anything.
Love the production on this one. You can hear the influence this album had on the music that came after it in the same dream-pop scene. Equally fun, atmospheric and depressing
I can respect music like this, but I don't think it's entirely for me. Still, songs like 'Don't let me lose this dream' are pretty timeless. Very influential album by a very influential artist.
Probably the most stereotypical reggae album you could imagine. Most tracks have the exact same groove and progression. Not a fan of this one.
Such a bore. Desperately needs some excitement. Musically it's fine, but it's the most vanilla experience you could have listening to an album from 1972. Each track sounds like it was written specifically for a different stage show.
This is the kind of Bruce I like. Americana without the loud sax and anthems. Very stripped back to basics and clearly Dylan influenced. A very authentic look at Bruce's thoughts about his country, life in 1982 and the American dream.
Fun girl-pop with some memorable hits. I prefer a band like the B-52's though, as they have a similar sound but the Go-Go's just lack a bit of the edge that makes the 52's so interesting.
Not an everyday kind of album. Sounds like Bladerunner and apocalypse now.
kind of industrial punk and metal. Cool sound but didn't really stick with me
Not expecting it to be this good, but it was a great time. Obviously great singles, but the deep cuts were just as good.
Great album, some killer singles and the guitar tones here are fantastic. Has a bit of a lull halfway through but picks back up in the last few tracks.
Fun but kind of drowns in its own 80's pop sheen. After listening it feels like you've had a slice of cake that's way too rich.
