The White Album by Beatles

Listened at work in headphones via YouTube music. Perhaps this album is more important and even interesting as a document of the world's greatest band beginning to fragment. But what an enthralling document it is! There may not be any stylistic consistency, and the songs may vary wildly from essential to completely unnecessary, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't find it fascinating and thoroughly enjoyable.

Exile On Main Street by The Rolling Stones
May 10 2026

Listened on YouTube, May 9th 2026, on JBL pocket speaker. Basque Cheesecake baking in the oven. Lydia is doing the vacuuming.

New York Dolls by New York Dolls
May 10 2026

Fun and chunky but repetitive. Played while making our Turkish Phaidon Feast.

Listened at work through headphones, at various intervals. I can appreciated the gravitas of this album, and the rhythm section in particular is very strong, but I just don't care for this breed of stadium rock at all. The enjoyment I get from most of these songs is purely on a nostalgic level of listening incessantly in the car as a wee tyke. Is U2 the biggest band to do absolutely nothing for me? Quite possibly.

Perfect album, even in it's messiest moments. Also it's crazy to me people will ride the anti-Kanye hype train and refuse to give this a listen when there are so many actively terrible people in this book. Frank Sinatra was a mob-affiliate. Seemingly every rock artist of the 70s was sleeping with underage groupies. Kanye is a clearly mentally ill person going through a very public breakdown. That doesn't excuse the things that he has said and the ideologies he has supported, but its so clearly the product of an unwell mind that I don't understand how people can take it remotely seriously. Just virtue signalling to my eyes. Rant over.

The Chronic by Dr. Dre
May 14 2026

Smooth as butter, cool as all hell. I can see why 90s heads still live and swear by this.

Bad Company by Bad Company
May 15 2026

I could not care less about this strain of blues rock. The musicianship is impressive and its clear these guys have a firm grasp on their genre, but it does absolutely nothing for me. It doesn't have the panache of a Led Zeppelin or the gusto of a Steppenwolf. Made entirely for beer belly dads and Republican recruitment videos.

Green River by Creedence Clearwater Revival
May 16 2026

Enjoyed this more than I thought I would! If I had to indulge in some 60s Redneck Rock this would certainly be up there in my list of choices. Swamp Rock deserves a modern comeback.

Tres Hombres by ZZ Top
May 17 2026

ZZ Top definitely a much better meme than they are a band. Totally fine and mostly forgettable.

New Boots And Panties by Ian Dury
May 18 2026

Pleasantly surprised by how cool and diverse this was!! After like five classic rock albums in a row it was nice to hear something with a bit more bite and humour to it. My first true discovery of this process.

Metallica by Metallica
May 19 2026

The highlights on this album are eternal, obviously. But it's also clearly the turning point when the band moved away from the crunchy, often almost math-y structures of Master of Puppets towards a more straightforward sound. And it just makes me sad! Less polish, more grit please!
