I really enjoyed this album and it’s very different to what I normally listen so it was nice and refreshing. Some of my highlights were Enjoy the silence, Policy of truth, Personal Jesus and waiting for the night(honourable mention goes to Blue dress). I would definitely recommend this to someone looking for a punk/rock synth sound.
Really enjoyed this!
Never really listened to the strokes, but it was a so nice to listen to Julian sing. His voice is so great and can rough it up perfectly when needed. Love how it gets more and more sex
pistols throughout.
Very obvious inspiration from Iggy Pop which is heavily appreciated and they still make their own which is hard to do when they have so many similarities.
Music is very different for everybody, but I think this is an album everyone can like.
Recommend Late night, some day, the modern age, New York City cops and soma
Would listen again!
A really great and experimental album, that I hadn’t heard of before!
Loved how the they had a few gags in some of the song e.g. James Taylor.
I’d recommend the score, fu-gee-la, family business and killing me softly
Very good but could be a bit bland and needed getting used to!
Really cool soul album!
You could really tell Bowie didn’t hold back with this album and was really himself. I don’t know if it’s just me, but I thought his voice in certain songs was very Hendrix.
The beginning of the album was pretty weak, minus the title track. That might have put some people off but atleast it actually got really good by the end!
I think this is definitely a big landmark for soul, as this acted like Elvis for soul music; not that he was the greatest soul performer of all time, even though he was great. It’s more that it acted as a door for white people to soul music like Elvis was to rock ‘n’ roll music. Although the black community that started it off is definitely better.
I’d recommend Young Americans, Right, Somebody up there likes me, Across the universe, Fame and Who can I be now?
A unbelievable classic surf rock album!
Brian Wilson is an absolute genius and deserves all the praise for this as album, as it is one of the reasons music sounds like it does today, truly a cornerstone.
The backing band for the album is the Wrecking Crew and should definitely be checked out, as they have legends like Glen Campbell and Carol Kay.
I’d recommend Wouldn’t it be nice, That’s not me, Don’t talk, I’m waiting for the day, Sloop John B, God only knows, I know there is an answer, Here today, I just wasn’t made for these times and Caroline, no
Amazing 80’s rock!
I only knew a few song sin the album, but the new were unbelievable too!
This has definitely been a big influence on American music and probably more!
I’d recommend Born in the U.S.A, Cover me, Downbound train, I’m on fire, Glory days, Dancing in the dark and Hometown
Really nice album!
The calm summer vibe of this album is super nice and ahead of its time in so many ways, especially with the harmonies and found sounds! Definitely their most experimental of that time.
Another one of Brian Wilson’s genius stuff but it isn’t as good as Pet Sounds sadly.
I’d recommend Heroes and villains, Vegetables, She’s goin’ bald, Little Pad, (Obviously) Good vibrations, With me tonight, Wind chimes and (honourable mention: gettin’ hungry)
Sick 80’s grunge/punk!
It’s crazy how you can really hear this album in so many artists today!
Really cool, inspiring and experimental. Definitely one of the best 80’s albums ever maybe even rock albums ever.
It has a pretty weak intro but really great in the middle!
I’d recommend Gigantic, River Euphrates, Where is my mind?, Cactus, Tony’s theme and Brick is red
Unbelievable Cuban/latin music!
I heard of this album before and I knew Chan Chan but, I had never listened to the rest of this project. A really great surprise!
The instrumentation of this album is masterclass, especially the brass section, guitar and vocals!
If you interested in this album there is a documentary and it has an amazing history and origin!
The highlight of this is definitely the vibe of it! You can really tell they have been doing it for years!
My only lowlight is the length of the album but, for me that would never lower the score.
I’d recommend Chan Chan, de Camino à la vereda, El cuarto de Tula, Dos gardenias, ¿Y tu qué es hecho?, Veinte años, El carretero, Candela, Amor de loca juventud, Orgellecida and Murmullo.
I wasn’t too excited for this one as, I amn’t a fan of the Byrds. In my opinion they kind of just never got over Beatlemania.
I’d recommend I have you seen her face, Renaissance fair, Time Between, Thoughts and words, My back pages and The girl with no name.
Sick funky soul album!
I had never listened to Sly Stone before but, he is really amazing! Definitely going to be a frequent listen!
Weirdly enough I always get Sly & The Family Stone mixed up with The Big Brother Holding Company idk why?
This sound is really fresh and different from the rest of the soul music at the time which is super!
Sometimes it can be very repetitive and have to rely on the instrumentation to keep your attention but, still a classic!
I’d recommend Stand, Don’t call me n*****, w*****, I want to take you higher, Somebody’s watching you, sing a simple song, Everyday people and You can make it if you try.
A hidden gem of a folk album.
I think Nick definitely goes unnoticed and a bit unappreciated. But hopefully this album sheds light on to him for people!
His style of guitar and songwriting in general is insane and really innovative. The main thing to note about his songwriting is rhythmic qualities which can put some people off but, over time you ease up to it!
I’d recommend Pink moon, place to be, Which will, Horn, Things behind the sun, Know, Parasite, Free ride and From the morning.
Never heard of or listened to these guys before but, they do seem quotes good and have a sick, dark, deep, melancholy, rock sound.
It could get a bit a bit bland and unemotional and the lyrics are gibberish sometimes and got really overproduced at the end but, still pretty good!
I’d recommend Terrible love, Sorrow,
Afraid of everyone, Bloodbuzz Ohio, Runaway and Conversation 16.
I have seen this album cover before but, never heard of it or listened to it, all I know is that it is like very experimental and electronic.
This isn’t really an album you would listen to on a walk or to relax but, it’s more of an album you put to listen to it and pay full attention.
I saw some people say they thought that it was just random sounds put together, which it kind of is but, honestly the more you listen to it the more you feel the rhythm and start to enjoy it!
I’d recommend America is waiting, Mea Culpa, Regiment, Jezebel spirit, Very very hungry, The carrier, Mountain of needles, Pitch to voltage, Defiant and solo guitar with tin foil.
Never heard of this album or band but, I know they’re country rock which could be cool!
Their voices are pretty whiny but, the instrumentation is really great!
I saw some of the reviews for this album and they aren’t great but, I actually really enjoyed some of this! Although some of it sounds pretty off for the time and not in a good way and the songs kind of sound the same.
Some of the lyrics also just made no sense and were very out of pocket.
I’d recommend Christine’s tune, Sin city, Do right woman, Dark end of the street, Wheels, Hot burrito #1, Hot burrito #2 and Do you know how it feels.
