1001 Albums Summary

Probably a cliche to say at this point, but it's a very eclectic mix of jazz, blues, soul, and a lot of songs that walk the line between each. And some songs that don't fit into any category. I went in expecting almost jazzy background music, but I had to listen to it a second time because I needed to give it more attention. Probably not an every day album, but a powerful one when you're in the right mood.

A decent album overall, but California Dreamin' dwarves the rest of the songs.

This one is hard to rate. I went in expecting something like Kind of Blue but that's basically the opposite of what this is. It's a challenging listen if you sit down and do critical listening. And it's definitely not meant to be listened to as background music. It's very technically proficient, but similar to Nina Simone's Wild in the Wind, you have to be in a specific mood. Or at least I have to be.
