1001 Albums Summary

6.8/10 One of those albums that kind of lost my interest over time. It used to be my favorite album, but as I discovered more and more music, it just kinda started sounding less and less exciting to me. I'm DEFINITELY not one to call The Beatles overrated, but this album kinda gives that title off for me. It's not a bad album by any means; there's ambition, cool recording techniques, and interesting ideas, but it just doesn't work for me coming back to it. Something about some moments just don't feel finished to me, even though they put in like 600 hours (I think) into mixing it. I just find myself gravitating to most other Beatles albums as opposed to Sgt Pepper's. A Day in the Life gives it bonus points though. One of, if not their best songs. (Had to throw in my icy cold take with my slightly warm one)

Basically enjoyable, but I can't see myself coming back to it anytime soon. Not really my kind of music. Nothing utterly abysmal, and lots of fun moments, just not for me Windmills in Your Mind though... doesn't quite bump the album up a star on it's own, but the whole thing kinda got more enjoyable after that.

Deep Purple have never been my favorite hard rock band. They have their moments, but this album is mostly not my cup of tea. It comes across to me as so flashy when there's not a lot going on, and the production is just not good. I can forgive them for the constraints of a mobile studio, and touring schedule, but it's just not an album I find myself jonesing to listen to. I don't think it's a LAZY album, I just don't think they puts much effort as the could've into it. Not to say the whole thing is mid, Pictures of Home is particularly amazing, and there's moments scattered throughout that are pretty nice, but then there's songs like Smoke on the Water that are showy and acting all badass, when it's really just a dude playing a few strums and saying "that's good enough for a song :)" I just don't understand the hype for this album. Deep Purple have a lot better sounding albums than this that actually succeed in being flashy and at least somewhat badass
