Axis: Bold As Love by Jimi Hendrix
Jul 18 2026

By the third listen I was fully into it. Not every song is my favorite but I do think they're all gems in their own way. This was my first experience with Jimi and I get it. He really was talented. It's a shame. The story for the cover is hilarious and to be honest, that's kind of on him. The Sandcastles song has great lyrics, but it's a bit too hippie and out of touch. Bold As Love is lush and gorgeous. What a way to end your album. I'm excited to check out his other stuff.

Hot Rats by Frank Zappa
Jul 19 2026

Okay! Absolutely no experience with Frank Zappa. Don't know what to expect. This is exciting. So it’s mostly just vibes. I dug it.

Gorillaz by Gorillaz
Jul 20 2026

I was so happy to get this album. I grew up listening to it but would really only listen to the singles. I’ve been wanting to sit with the Gorillaz and their music for a while and actively listen, so this was a great excuse. It is as good as they say. Such a fun sound and so creative.

Garbage by Garbage
Jul 21 2026

Yas! Another band I’ve been wanting to sit with. Excited. So good!! Her voice is amazing. The lyrics are fun. Loved the guitar too. Will be revisiting for sure. Would buy this on vinyl.

Fear Of Music by Talking Heads
Jul 22 2026

Yaaaaas. I’ve been wanting to check out Talking Heads. Only know two of their songs. Oh. Okay. Well, maybe I’ll like their other albums better. Not exactly my cup of tea. I started vibing with some songs a bit more the second time around but then I gave up. Maybe later down the line I will revisit. They’re definitely a vibe. But this album wasn’t my vibe.

Blackstar by David Bowie
Jul 23 2026

I actually own this one. I’ve listened to some of it but it always made me too sad to listen to all of it. Finally did. It’s not his best work, but it might be his most emotional. Though I feel like he was still hiding behind his persona. But maybe that was all he knew by then. Maybe at some point the line between the real him and his persona blurred. Only listened to it once. Will revisit someday.

Superfly by Curtis Mayfield

this was fun!

At Budokan by Cheap Trick
Jul 29 2026

didn’t realize we were doing live albums too. i’m rarely ever a fan of that. this wasn’t the exception. i guess they picked this one because of the song selections? it does have their hits. but it still doesn’t make sense to me. are we also doing greatest hits albums as best of albums? i think that’s just wrong. i was under the impression this was a collection of the greatest albums. if we’re counting collections of greatest hits and live albums that just seems lazy and like cheating? a great album is one that was planned out as an album. if it’s just a collection of songs that were hits or something then what’s the difference of just listening to a playlist with their singles? idk. seems dumb. so much music out there and we’re giving the honor of being considered a greatest album of all time to collections of songs and not real albums. bizarre.
